Perfect

Nov 5, 2005 by Whocares05050

I absolutly enjoy this phone and every feature it offers. Reading other post concerning the volume issue, thankfully it has not occured to me ( knock on wood ).
I only have good things to say, i mean the mp3 player is pretty good for a phone, camera's not bad either, and im not to concerned about the 2 second delay. Receptions excellent. I was considering the Moto e815 but opted for the 8100 insteed.

this is a very awsome phone, and was diffenatly worth the $300+tax i paid for it.
Pros:
good reception(why i baught it)-much better tha my old VX6100
MP3 player!!!(see cons)
upgradable memory-i baught a 128gb miniSD and i have some pics, some ringers, and a bunch of MP3's on it
nice size-not too big, not too small
feels great-not like its gunna fall apart, like my old VX6100 did
Cons:
MP3 player-cuts in and out in low service area.
MiniSD-hard to add MP3's with a macintosh. it doubles the songs and you can deleted the doubles.

other wise its fine. i really just baught it to make and recive calls, and text messages. GREAT PHONE. BUY IT

This is a great phone! I just switched from the Motorola E815. I love LG and this phone is it!

Glad to own the LG 8100

My wife bought the Moto E815. After two weeks of using it, she started to complain about some bugs and problems with the voice command. I tested her phone and also found it buggy. Then I was surprised to found out her address book was only half full. I asked her what's up with that and her response was "it's not the best phone I have ever owned" so I stopped inputing numbers. The next day we went to Verizon to exchange this for the same phone thinking it was only the phone? The saleslady said that this phone has had some returns and she personaly wasn't a big fan of Motorola. She recommended the LG Vx8100 for many reasons and just traded her Samsung in on the LG 8100. She told us she loved her Samsung and never thought she would ever find a phone she liked better! She showed us how to disable the EVDO to 1X because we live in a poor signal area and said this will save extra battery life. I can't tell you how much my wife loves this phone. It is so easy that her address book is now complete and the voice command works every time and she thanks me every day for driving her back to Verizon for the exchange. If you like simple interface and user friendly phones, this is the best choice!!!
There is one thing about this phone that I have found confusing. I see ads for this phone stating the MP3 player and users talking about the phone having a MP3 player built into it. I don't think it has one yet! There is nothing mentioned in the manual or any where in the menu. I think it is forthcoming in the near future. It will be an extra service from Verizon after they bring out their music on demand. It is still the best phone ever even without the player.

Could have been perfect...

If the ear piece volume didn't fluctuate and speaker phone were louder this phone would have received a perfect score.

Pros:

1. Front and main screen are very clear and bright.
2. Bluetooth
3. Rings loud with bright colors and comes with some good ring tones.
4. Good signal strength in most areas that I've been in the Tri State region.
5. Decent battery strength.
6. Camera is pretty good

Cons:

1. Ear piece and speaker phone volume is the only thing wrong with this phone, unfortunately it's not a small problem that can be overlooked. I am hoping LG realizes this problem and provides some sort of fix

How can people give this a 5/5?

I have had the LG VX6000, which I loved, but whose battery was lasting less than 5 hours. With my NE2 upgrade, I was waiting excitedly for the VX8100, especially after reading the specs.

I live in New York City, where Verizon has awesome coverage and great signals pretty much everywhere.

I bought the VX8100 on the day it came out (July 15), at 6pm after work. Tech services was nice enough and smart enough to transition my phonebook from my 6000. 3 hours later, when I got home, the phone was dead. Completely. Plugging in the charger did nothing (although the battery did get warmer).

I took it back the next morning to exchange, and got my new VX8100. Like many others, I was very disappointed to find out that it cannot play MP3s (yet). How can this be a perfect phone if its main functionality is disabled?

Pros:
Great weight - feels solid in the hand
Great screens
Great camera
Great sound

Cons:
Battery time - many mornings, I wake up and the phone is completely off. Keep in mind that the phone was fully charged only 24 hours earlier, and I make 0 or 1 phone call a day, maybe 15 minutes a most. I'm shocked at how bad the battery is.
Earpiece volume: I can barely hear my wife on this phone, and am constantly trying to adjust how I hold the phone. I never had this problem with the VX6000.
No Vibrate and Ringtone - I used this feature all the time (maybe because in NY, one can't always hear the ringtone given how loud it is on the streets).

I'll keep my VX8000

Jul 16, 2005 by FAUguy

After using the phone for two days, I'm going to keep my VX8000.
The only thing the 8100 has going for it is that it's slightly smaller, has a miniSD slot, and BlueTooth.
Other than that, the Internal Display is smaller than on the 8000. The External Display is much smaller and only 65K color, where the 8000 has 262K color. The camera quality is horrible. Not as bad as the V710 was, but not near as good as the 8000.
You can see the pics here:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=679747
What's the point of being able to store pics to the miniSD card when they look this bad?
The phone does have a mp3 player, but must rename the files to mid (just like on the 8000). You can download the mid files from your PC to the miniSD card and then place it in the phone. The 8100 will play the mid files, but only while the phone is flipped open. If you close it while playing music, the music will stop. You also can't use the Rew/Play/FF buttons on the front flip. This will only work once MusicOnDemand comes out.

If you NEED BlueTooth and want to use a miniSD card for transfers, then this phone is for you.
However, if you don't need that and want a good quality phone that you can actually use the camera on, get the 8000.

LG 8100

Jul 20, 2005 by jamie62

I just purchased the 8100 4 days ago. So far the phone is all I expected and more, however; the MP3 player is inoperative per VERIZON's request! I can't believe it. I contacted LG directly and was told Verizon requested a last minute software change to de-activate the MP3 function. Granted, I didn't buy the phone as an MP3 player, but all the research I read indicated it would have that feature. It's just misleading. On a more positive note, the phone and camera functions are great and so far my blue tooth has worked well. Overall a very good phone.

Pros:

Call quality
size
camera
speaker phone
blue tooth
great LCD's inside and out

Cons:

crippled MP3 player
