V557 -2nd day and already a problem

Jan 22, 2006 by VeronicaLakes

So, I just got this phone yesterday. Today was my first opportunity to use it. Made a couple of calls and took a few pictures. Closed the phone. About 10 minutes later I wanted to make a call and the screen was PINK and had frozen. Couldn't even turn the device OFF!!! Had to do a hard shock; remove the battery while the phone is powered on. Left the battery off for about a minute, put it back on, powered the phone on and everything was good to go. Hours later, after taking several pictures and a little video I opened the one again to a FROZEN screen of jumbled pixel colors, etc. Thank goodness for the 30 trial period!!!! Anyone else have this issue??? I bought two of the V557 and will exchange both. Motorola, or at least Cingular, has been making "cool" but poor quality phones this last year.....

Good phone with many features

I've had this phone for a little over 8 months now. First of all, don't buy this phone if you can't figure out how to navigate through menus on your own. The instruction manual (like most Motorola manuals) doesn't explain a whole lot and the menu is counterintuitive sometimes. So for a first time cell phone user, it might be better to have a Nokia (my first phone) since they're easier to use.

On the plus side, it has lots of features for the price....if you use them. I use the camera a lot when I'm comparison shopping for things so I can remember what they look like or the prices of items. The camera is your average cell phone camera. It's cool that it has a zoom feature. The video capture is a cool feature to impress your friends, but don't count on catching any action sequences. It makes one big blurred mess if you try.

I personally use the speakerphone a lot and people have said they can't tell I'm on it. The Bluetooth I use sometimes. I'd use it more if it didn't drain the battery so fast.

Speaking of battery life, it's pretty bad. I have to recharge the phone every night if I talk for more than two hours on it during the day. As other reviewers have mentioned, the screen is hard to see in daylight. Turning down the brightness on the screen seems to help it a little bit.

One more thing..I'm the biggest klutz in the world. I'm the Urkel of Texas. :) Well, I've dropped this phone three times onto concrete and it's survived and without a scratch even! I don't recommend trying it, but if you're clumsy like me, the v551 may be good for you.

Motorola v551 review

If you like flip phones the design of the phone is very good. The only problem for me with the design is that is it pretty big compared to most phones out there. Its features are great. The sound quality is good whether you use it regular or on speaker phone and you can get good ringtones. Texting on this phone is easy except when you try let it guess your word in T9 mode it does not guess it well. The one feature that does not work well is the camera. Almost all of the pictures i have taken seem to be low quality even in cameraphone standards. Games are easy to download and play. The battery life does not impress me. It only last about 3 days or 2 if you use it much and that is if you turn it off during the night. Call quality is excellent! I have never had any complaint about not being able to hear the other person. My overall opinion of this phone is that it is an awesome phone whether for play or for fun.

The Motorola v551

You Want Sleek. You Want Entertaining. You want the Motorola v551! After using this phone for over a year I found out that this trendy flip phone will have everyone talking. There are so many different things that this phone can do. Here is my complete, full review about the Motorola v551.

Design- My favorite things about the looks of the v551 looks amazing while shut, with its bold blue and silver look it is too desirable. Then this phone comes to life when you flip it open. A Brilliant 65000 color TFT 176 x 220px screen rimmed by a shining silver outline. There is also a camera key, and a voice record key on the side. I can fit this phone in tight spaces with its 89 x 49 x 25 mm design and weighing in at only 114g.

Text Messages- I have tons of fun using this feature on my v551. I can easily send messages, pictures, videos, animations, voice records and more with SMS, EMS and MMS options. Then Receive reply’s back in a matter of seconds!

Battery Life- Talk away without worrying about a dead phone with your 820 mAh Li-Ion battery. Talk for up to 3.75 hours and keep your phone on for days with a 225hr. standby time. It usually takes about 5-6 hours to get a good charge and last another couple days.

Call Quality- I Think that this phone has had better quality that the previous phones I have had. I can hear a crisp, strong sound when I have over 3 bars and when I have less it is still very clear. The speaker-phone is very clear and easy to hear and I have dropped very few calls while using my v551 and am extremely happy with the quality of my calls

My Personal Opinion- After using this phone for over a year I have found that this is one of the best Motorola phones available, and is the best phone that I have used in the past years with Cingular. I am very picky and I need to have a small phone with lots of features and this phone is so loaded with features that its incredible.

Motorola V551

I have really enjoyed the Motorola V551. It has great features and a good design. The speaker phone feature works better than my past phones. It has withstood a lot of abuse. I drop it all the time. I have even dropped it in the toilet and it still works fine. The only problem I have with it is the battery life. The most it ever lasts me is two days. However, that is with quite a bit of use. Overlall, it was a pretty good investment and I would definitely Motorola again.

Overall, Very, Very Satisfied

I have bounced back and forth between different phone manufacturers in the past, Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola. I started with Houston Cellular way back and stayed as it is Cingular now. By far the V551 has been one of the better phones I have ever owned. (Best value overall for the $$$ in my opinion)

Pros:
*Solid well-built feel.
*Very seldom drops a call (usually it is the other party dropping..)
*WAP-Internet features work smoothly and quickly.
*Bluetooth earpieces works well w/phone.
*Downloads easily (pics, games, etc.)
*Excellent overall sound quality.
*Color display is excellent and makes games and apps a pleasure to view.

Cons:
*Battery life is acceptable but could be a little better. I average two days between charges. (I do use the phone heavily though)*The charging port can be hard to connect with in the dark or moving in a vehicle. I have never liked Motorola's two-pronged charger design.
*Sometimes the software seems to move a little slower than other phones I have had. (Please Wait)
*Internal Antenna would be nice.

Despite a few cons this is still by far a better phone than most. It seems that sales reps from Cingular like to push the Nokia products but don't cave to the pressure without researching the products first. This is the most bang for your buck for now! I got this phone when it first came out and I have had it longer than any other. Good Luck on your hunt for a next phone!

DON'T EVEN ABOUT BUYING THIS PHONE!

Get used to saying "WHAT?" rather than "can you hear me now?". The recention is tinny and breaks up a lot. The speaker phone is actually a little better than the regular speakers, but that's not saying much. The camera is okay, but I thought I was buying a phone!
I have returned two phones already and will return this one as well. Customer service at Cingular needs some better coaching as well.
