I had used it and only for a brief moment (6-9 months) had a different phone. <br /><br />Pros: <br /><br />Strong battery life, easy to navigate menu, good multimedia functions(for 2006) Easy layout to navigate around menu options, alarm times, settings, etc. <br /><br />Generally gets strong service signal on rogers network. I have had full bars 2+ hours away from major urban centers in cottage country. <br /><br />Quite durable. Dropped in snow, dropped many times on multiple surfaces and cracked front face piece but did not affect front display. <br /><br />Camera works alright, videos and picture quality is average. <br /><br /><br />Cons: <br /> <br />I have had trouble with getting it to charge, bu that was because my charger was partially malfunctioning. <br /><br />Kind of bulky, does not nit nicely in pockets as well as other phones would. <br /><br />the 14 second video clip max out time is quite annoying<br /><br />Overall this model is somewhat outdated, but for a fairly cheap price you can get a reliable and functional cell phone that will last a few good years. <br /><br />You may not be interested in this model if you like texting a great deal or would like a newer model to access web pages. Really durable. I threw it, spilled water on it, it still worked threw it.<br /><br />The ending to this phone was that it was giving me screen problems. I had to repeatedly keep opening up and closing the phone. And then it would just stay off. ended up giving it to a friend who thought maybe he could unlock the phone and fix the screen. But he just went to turn it on and the screen worked, and the phone still dialed, and he still uses it currently.<br /><br />This was my first video phone. I had the LG g300 I think it was, before. It was kind of fat and looked like a pear, and I had that for awhile, but the Moto was a big improvement definetely. I loved it when i had used Cingular, if I still had them I would not even get the vu or any other. Had being the key word there. The ear piece went south so I had to talk on the speaker phone for a few months. The signal was terrible(Maybe its AT&amp;T) but I don't think so cause I now have a Nokia 6101 and the signal is better, I get at least 1 bar w/it when the other one got none. I mean what kind of phone has a special external antenna (yes I have one for it) so you can get better signal. My b/f has the same phone and the only reason he has it is because it is a fairly durable phone. His ear piece volume stinks too. And those darn buttons on the side to adjust the rings and vibes are just TOOOO sensitive. I have missed many calls cause I bumped the button and didn't know it. And then if you have it in your pocket on vibrate don't plan on answering your phone. I could never feel it. It's just over all a real bad phone. I can't imagine anyone buying it. I don't think all Moto phones are bad, I had a Razr that I loved (except it didn't swim to well). I can't really think of anything wonderful about this phone. Buyer's beware when thinking of purchasing this phone either new or 2nd hand. I also purchased Motorola Phone Tools &amp; data cable from ebay and now have everything I want. I may never upgrade to another phone. Read PC Mag review of this phone. I don't use the speaker phone, but have taken videos, had picture ID with the phone #s, have created additional categories for phone #s; have added music from my pc as ring-tones; have numerous pictures of my grandson, flowers, siblings. The only fault I find is that it does not have a slot for a memory card and the battery last @ 5 days not 7 for talk time -otherwise I would rate this phone a 5. I can't imagine why it was discontinued by the Cell phone companies...maybe because it's too good! My husband has a new Samsung phone which doesn't have nearly the capacity of this workhorse phone. Yes, it's a bit heavy, but I appreciate that. It fits right in my hand and the cover makes it non-slippery. A wonderful product. It lasted 3 years and survived a drop in the lake.<br />I have used this phone 2 years and hate it. The charger connector is not reliable. I have to watch it to make sure it stays in and carefully set it down before leaving it. Even then, sometimes I wake up to an uncharged phone. Others I know have the same problem.<br />I have replaced the keypad twice. There is a little bump that presses a small button when the phone closes. This has worn out twice in 2 years. It only lasted 9 months the last time. It also gets dirty easy so that the phone does not turn on when you open it. I miss a lot of calls that way.<br />It does have a vibrate only mode, but to enter it, you must press a button. When you do, it makes a loud beep. This is annoying when you go into a meeting and realize your phone is on. To turn it off makes more noise than the ringer! This is poor design.<br />This is not the quality I expect from Motorola. My wife has an LG. It works great! I will probably buy the LG CU400 next.<br /><br />The only reason I give the phone a positive score is that it does have good reception and decent voice quality. Then I got the ROKR, which I hated because the iTunes stuck all the time and I couldnt send txt messages without it freezing up. So I went back to this phone for a year &amp; a half. Then I went to a Samsung, the slider phone which got stolen. From there to a Palm Treo 680 I have now, which I am very displeased with. This Motorola was way better than the PDA I have now. <br /><br />This phone never dropped calls, I got service in the fieldhouse at my school (which is saying alot because nobody ever does!), and it never froze or lagged. It basically got it done and I loved this phone! I chewed the antennae until I stripped the wires, though, and I had to upgrade.<br /><br />The only con is that it is kind of bulky. I dont think warranty likes me that much. 4 of the times it was my fault that the phone had broken. 2 of the times though, the phone just completely lost service. the first time i didnt get service anywhere so i called and they sent me a new phone. with that new phone, about 2 months later, the same thing happened. they sent me a new one again, but i do not know what caused the loss in service. that is the only real problem i have had with 2 of these phones. <br /><br />PROS<br />-great sound quality<br />-good speaker<br />-awesome bluetooth connection<br />-great, loud, sound for ringtones and stuff<br />-clear bright picture<br />-perfect sized keys<br />-nice camera, with video too<br />-long battery life<br />-easy to see outside display with clock, battery and service bar.<br />-can change ring style without opening the phone and without any noise or beeps at all. (good for when you suddenly remember in the middle of a meeting or a classroom)<br /><br />CONS<br />-a little heavier than the average phone<br />-stub attena<br />-cannot store more than one number in a phonebook entry, if you want more than one number for a person, example a home and cell number, it must be 2 different entries<br />-cannot change the banner on the main screen, it always says cingular. (It shows moving horizontal &amp; vertical lines, which looks plaid) Sometimes it'll flash the time, or show the time for about 30 seconds after I close it. One of the primary reasons I like it is because it gets really good reception. Second, if you are into features...this phone has alot. For a clamshell phone it is a little bulkier, which I liked since it fit well in my hand. This was important since the bluetooth didn't work as well. Speakerphone works average. Some of the drawbacks is the bluetooth did not work well with my plantronics headset and the annoying webbrowsing button. So I went ahead and got it mostly because I wanted a phone that was reliable more than anything else. I had the phone for about a year before it got stolen three days ago. I was pleased with the overall build of the phone, it was very resilient of falls, dropping it three or four times on hard concrete and a bunch others on softer surfaces the phone just showed up a few scars on its case but no damage to the internals. I must add I once dropped it on wet sand and the phone was caked in it, I just brushed it off, blew some air at it and it worked like nothing happened. I always like the feel of the buttons, they felt durable and of high quality. I like the external display, the fact that you can see who is calling you before you open the phone is very useful. The size and weight never bothered me too much but it is a heavy phone.<br />All in all the phone made me feel asured that I didn't need insurance because of it's resistance. The V551s ringer volume was bad-I could barely hear it ring even when it was up as loud as it could go. One for my wife, and one for me. Both of us liked the phones at first. The features seemed OK and the connections were reliable. But, a huge problem occured with both phones about the same time. The phones do not plug into the charging cord properly. You plug in the charger, you twist it, you bend it, you pull it half out of the phone, you step on it, you let an elephant step on the connection, still nothing. It takes us about 5 to 10 minutes per phone to get the phone to start charging, then if anyone moves the phone or breathes on it, another 5 to 10 minutes to get it to charge. What good are all the nice features if the phone wont charge. I do not know about other Motorola's, but I would avoid them all as this is a basic necessity and has been perfected by other companies for years.
