headphone adapters

So I just bought a 2.5->3.5mm headphone adapter on Ebay and it doesn't work too well with my enV. It has to be in a very specific spot mid way into the phone in order to work. Has anybody used the headphone adapters that plug into the bottom of the phone? Anybody know where I can get one cheap?

Thanks.

Nope. I went to Best Buy and spent $16 for a retractable 2.5-3.5 adapter and find that it works but sometimes I get a dropped out signal if I wiggle it. Most of what I have seen that goes through the bottom are wired headsets for hands free. Wondering about Bluetooth wireless stereo headsets myself..

Take it from me, i used to also have wired headphones myself and they drove me nuts. I finally got the Motorola S9 stereo bluetooth headphones and they're definitely worth it. They're great. Sound quality is awesome, battery life is good and they are durable. You can get a good deal from amazon.com as well.

Update, Since I read that you need a triple ringed 2.5mm plug, I returned the adapter to BEst Buy. That is why I kept having intermittant drop outs. Here is a quality answer about how the jack works from a PDF in Howardforums:
LG doesn't use a standard 2.5mm stereo jack. There are 4 connections....(3 black bands). You need to buy a 2.5mm (3 black bands) male to 3.5mm (2 black bands) female adapter. If the male end doesn't look like this picture then the connections won't line up properly and you'll probably only get
one channel to work.
1 for ground
1 for right channel
1 for left channel
1 for a mic/button for mic
Here is the pic for a correct type adapter:

Thanks a ton for the reply, that information is really helpful.

I got a 2.5 mm adapter with 4 connections (3 black bands) like you described but I have the same problem. It cuts in and out and the music is extremely loud with some distortion. I couldn't look at the picture though because the link is broken, so i'm not certain that this is what your'e talking about.

At any rate do you know if there could be an impedence issue? Do I need headphoens that have a specifica number of Ohms to work right?
