I used both phones. I changed to the EnV and could not be more thankful that I did.
The keyboard on the Samsung is sooo small it's not even funny. Trying to text or reply to emails is a joke.
The EnV is much more durable in my opinion. That little dual hinge got so flimsy after about alittle more than a week or so, I exchanged it before I would pay through the nose to get the EnV.
The one gripe I have with the EnV over the Samsung is that the Samsung has the "speech to text" which is very primitive but fun to use (when it actualy works good.)
That, I feel; will be a real hit in the future - once all the kinks are fixed.

Yeah true that'll be the real big thing when speech to text becomes big. I mean yeah the technology is cool to use, but it's soo dam annoying to use as well cause you can only speak 1 word a time and you have to really enunciate your words. It's not ready for mass production for the public yet I don't think...not in my opinion.

In response to your question- The differences are:
-enV has Stereo Bluetooth Support 740 does not.
-Statistics wise they say the enV has a much longer standby time and longer talk time than the 740
-enV has a dedicated numeric keypad on the inside, very helpful when using navigator, mobile web, email etc. To type numbers on the 740 you have to press the num lock key (just adds an extra step).
-With the enV you can read and type text messages without opening the phone
-enV's Camera is far superior (functionality & resolution)
-The phone quality is comparable.
-The "P" button is much easier to reach on the enV. . .the 740 has a little bumper right next to it.
-I personally like the clock on the 740 and I wish the enV had something comp...
