1. Go to the Tools and Setting Menu. Press #. You should see User Lock screen with ??????. Enter 000000 (six zero's). You should see System Info Menu. Select 6. Pref Mode. Select CDMA if you want to turn off EVDO. ( Default is Hybrid). Turning off EVDO made a great difference in battery drainage for me, but I live in a home where there is a weak signal and the phone was constantly searching for EVDO when in hybrid mode. If you live where you get a strong signal it might not make much of a difference.

2. No news on new firmware. The phone has only been out a month. I am sure it will take a while.

2) newest software is a950.YK25. Every Verizon corp. store should have it as of Dec. 16th.
