2. No, you cannot read text messages on the outside.
3. User interface is the same as on the 8100. Standard for Verizon now, I believe.

1- The dial cycles through your songs, you can then depress it to start play or pause.

3- It's similar to the 8100 but not the exact same. You have many more options when it comes to the camera/video settings and it has a few smaller differences as well like organising the pics into two folders by type instead of all in one like the 8100.
4- The speakers sound better than the 8100's imo and the speaker phone is much better. No holding the speaker button down to turn it off and on.
5- There is a small amount of time between depressing the shutter button and the actual pic being taken at highest resolution. This can be shortened by increasing the iso setting, better light and lowering the resolution.
