My observations of the 950 & 8100

My NE2 is up tomorrow so I've been looking at some new phones and reading this forum an awful lot in the past few weeks. For awhile now I've wanted to get the 8100, but I kept my options open. Right now I have finally narrowed it down between the 8100 and the Samsung 950, but I'm still looking.
Today I went and checked out the 950 in stores for the first time. I personally do not really like the red on the front of it. It's not a crisp look and it's not a bright red. I also thought the phone felt very cheap and almost fake(that may sound dumb)
I still like the 8100 and the blue on it. I like all of the features as well because I want a phone that is loaded with features, regardless of the price.
Another phone I checked out is the LG 9...

Hi Derek,
I can definately agree with you about the 950 feeling "fake", and I know exactly what you mean. The real working model felt like a dummy phone! I thought the keys (front, including scroll wheel and keypad) felt and looked cheap too. I also checked out the 9800 and think it's too big and bulky also, and I am a girl! I have the 8100 and have not had any of the problems that others have mentioned (knock on wood). It has been a great phone! If you like the 8100 and are leaning towards it, you could get it, try it out for the 15 days and see if it works good for you and if not, then you can always exchange for something different before your 15 days are up.

Mary,
Thank you so much for the reply. That definitely does help. Yes I also do not like the inside of the 950 because of the buttons...they seem too small and narrow, whereas the 8100 has them spread out and very nice looking. The store model did seem very cheap and like I was going to crush it with my hands. I set the store 8100 model's outside screen to a picture of me just to try it so I hope people enjoy my pic, lol.

While looking for a phone I try to look for the whole package. Do you guys think that the 8100 is something I could have for 1-2 years and feel it is one of the best quality I could get?

Have you checked out the A970 at all? I hear it should be released in Verizon Stores on the 18th. Already in Best Buy stores...? Just a thought if you haven't already seen it ~Jamie 😉

Why not try all 3 out? Get the 950 on the 12th and return it on the 16th. Get the 8100 on the 16th and return it on the 20th. Then get the 970 on the 20th and return it on 24th. You will still have 3 days before you DEFINITELY have to choose due to the fact that VZWs 15 day worry free guarantee will expire on the 27th.

I'm not sure you are allowed to try out more than two phones. Otherwise, some people might try out 15!!!

🤣 🤣 🤣

I think he's right-- could you imagine everybody on this board changing phones every 15 days?

You can try out as many phones as you'd like. Here's the secret. dont exchange but return.

You're only allowed one exchange. but you're allowed to purchase as much as you want. That's what I do. I purchase a phone then try it. if don't like, I return it and make a different purchase. that way I always have the 15 days trial period

people like you drive the phone prices up..

What do you think they do with all these returns. we eat the phones. In order for our store to coupe the costs of used phones we have to charge more on all phones to break even with idiots who abuse such policies. How bout you feel the phones out in the store and see what you like best.

To answer the question: get the 8100, great rf, great battery, great speaker, mp3 player vcast scheduler and of course lg quality. No problems with it if you get the new software. 9800 is neat but too bulky and does everything the 8100 minus qwerty keyboard

Samsungs all have horible battery lifes and bad reception with no antenna.

Motorola is just junk... unless you like a phone that wont charge...

Wow, okay, I've had several 8100s because of the fluctuating earpiece volume problem and I have the latest software. Everyone keeps telling me they haven't heard of the problem even though it's apparent.

Hey What do you think they do with all the returns. They just put them back in the box, clean them and re-sale them. I am not like other idiots that stick to what vzw decides on exchange policies. Customer's in position to try out as many phones as he'd like. no matter how many purchases or returns the same customer makes. I keep what I like; this is why I pay my money, isn't it? what I don't like, I return period
