Not impressed!

I checked this phone out today at Circuit City. It was okay, but didn't impress me much. I definately know now for sure that I like my 8100 better! This is just my opinion, so don't go irate on me, but I didn't like the red color-not a deep red like I'd hoped and it looked almost "sprayed on". Also, the jog wheel feels and looks cheap and the front buttons don't light up (like others have mentioned on here). Inside keys feel sort of funny to me, don't like the layout nearly as well as the 8100 and those too looked cheap. Overall, I thought it felt a little cheap and not even close to the quality of the 8100. The only thing I can say that I really liked better about it over the 8100 is the INtenna!

You know, I think the red faceplate color matches the red bars of Verizon's user interface!!!

Maybe Samsung is trying to win brownie points with Verizon!!!

I have yet to see this phone (A950); however, from reading the few reviews both here and at Howard Forums I get the impression that the folks who have tried this phone have not experienced the sound difficulties prone to the 8100. Now I realize that not everyone has suffered through this (I did - and I returned the 8100) - but I get the feeling that the majority of 8100 owners have had various episodes of the flucutating volume. If the 950 is equal in all other areas to the 8100 and does not suffer from fluctuating volume (plus you can use the speakerphone with the flip closed) - then that alone should sway enough people over to this phone. Me: I am awaiting more reviews on the 950 and 970 plus the Nokia 6256 and then make a decision.

the a950 doesnt have the low volume,or fluctuating volume bug that the 8100 has!! this was enough reason for me to sell the 8100 and get the a950!! the jog button is not cheaply made, its actually a very solid phone!!

It was just my opinion and since I have NEVER had the volume problem with my 8100, that's even more of a reason for me to keep it.

What are you talking about? The jog dial and keys are metal alloy, along with the front of the phone. The plastics also feel much better than the 8100s, and the intenna makes it the obvious choice.

Next time get a clue or use the phone more.

Let's stay on topic and just compare the latest Verizon phones.

For the person above who asked: the Nokia 6256i is a phone supposedly coming out next week - it should be compared with all of these new phones.

Me: I am just looking for a good phone that will stay contemporary for a few years - but I get the idea that those who bought the LG 8100 will not give in that their phone does have problems. Mary, you probably got lucky - but if you read all of these boards you will have to admit that there have been sufficient problems with the 8100 for those owners to now look for alternatives.

I haven't seen the a950 yet. Just curious, how do the 950's LCD sizes compare to the 8100.

Oh, I don't know.......perhaps someone who is just interested in a good phone!!! Remember them? That is what cell phones were originally intended to do: be a good phone away from your land line! I am not saying that the Nokia 6256i is the phone to get - since I have never even seen it; however, for me before any of these other gadgets come into play - I would just like a cell phone that gets good reception - doesn't lose calls - has good voice clarity and loudness (both ways) - has bluetooth capabilities. Then and only then will camera and other toys come into play. Therefore, I would think anyone desiring a good phone should consider the 815; 8100;...

AMEN!! ALL phones have their problems. The 815 site is filled with them just like the 8100 and any other 3g phone being offered by VZW. New technology = new problems. Choose a phone that works in the fashion that most fits your needs.

I wasn't impressed with either the Samsung A950, or the LG 8100. I'd choose the LG 6100, or LG 4650 or Moto E815 if your main objective is getting good quality calls, with adequate volume, and good reception all over town.
The Samsung 950 did not get adequate signal anywhere in my home, where I had no problems with any LG model or the Moto 815 (which I finally got and kept); I could make calls from the inner parts of my basement with those phones. I got zero signal with the A950. In testing that phone in the store, and areas surrounding it, I got great signal and call quality.
The problem with the LG 8100, which I was interested in and really loved everything about it, is that, in testing it in the store, I made a bunch of test calls,...
