well just got the phone....issue's so far?....the case situation is ridiculous....one...only a pouch is available....and to get it out,you need to grip the top of the phone....right square on the camera lens..(like you have time while driving to GENTLY slide the phone out of a pouch)......Second.....the lens is in the same spot I want to grip the phone(left hand thumb hits the lens)....it is way uncomfortable to hold......third..Why does my screen go black after 10 seconds while on a call?......speaker or otherwise?.....yes,the backlight option is working.....it stays on while the flip is open(along with the keypad..all the 5,10,30 second timers work great also...).....Fourth...is there ANY WAY to set speaker volume and earpiece volume SEPER...

fifth....if all there is a pouch...who cares if I can speak with the flip closed...how can I clip the phone to my visor?.....

thanks...

the pouches that they are selling still have belt clips that would allow u to clip to a visor.

You could always buy a bluetooth headset that has voice dial and that would save you the hassle of opening and closing the pouch and phone to answer a call while driving.

Those complaints have nothing to do with it as a phone, and there is a clip available, look around. If your only complaints are asthetic, just hold your complaining because more accessories will be made, and at least one will help.

I couldn't agree with you more. This case issue was cause enough for me to consider returning this nice phone. But saved at the last minute. Went to Verizon and tryed a LG 8000 case. It fits perfect and allows the " swivel " to swivel, covers the keyboard and display. I would also like to know why the keypad light goes out so fast. Try the case , you will be very happy. 🙂

Yes it covers the display screen with clear plastic, and the keypad as well. The only exposed part of the keypad is send, end, and ok. Much much better than pouch.

No, I just got phone other day and haven't had chance to play. I have been so paranoid about dropping it as I surgically remove it from its pouch. One annoying thing is with baclight set to 30 sec,if I am on a call keypad light goes of right away. Now you can't enter anything without hitting a key to get light back. Another int thing is Samsung informed me that the software in phone is old and there is a new version out. Verison doesn't have it yet.Much luck with the " case ".

The bottom seems to stay on ok. It's not the perfect fit since this is a case for a different phone. I also found that the side buttons are covered. May be a little modification will help. It's still better than " the pouch ". Let me know if you find a closer fit.

Verizon shows a leather case on their website. Go to "Select Additional Accessories" and click on "Leather Case."

I'm not sure if this is actually the pouch you're talking about or a dedicated leather case for the 970.

Check it out!

Have you seen the 8000 case yet? I am getting a little annoyed with the 8000 case, side volume button is half covered, speaker button fully covered, and plastic screen cover keeps sliding up.

I also have the 8000 with leather case, but I haven't found it a problem. All the things you mention are true, but they don't annoy me.

Have you found any good alternatives?

I have the Samsung 970 using the LG 8000 leather case since no non - pouch case is really available for the 970. Amazing how a case effects the use of phone, mainly covered side buttons.

I came up with my own carying bag. I had a little canvas like bag that a business card case came in. It is just big enough for the phone to perfectly fit in it, and the pouch has draw strings at the end. I turned it inside out, lined the inside with the silk optical cloth you use to clean your glasses, and then reverted it so the optical cloth is on the inside. My 970 slides in easily, but doesn't come out on its own, and I put it in so the camera lens is at the base of the carrying bag, so it is fully protected. I just carry the whole thing in my pants pocket and it works beautifully.

BTW, I saw the leather carrying case at VZW and hated it. Too big and bulky and scratched my belt.
