Does anyone have know of the actual release date or time frame from now when this phone will be released? Also does anyone know if this phone will have the ability to create you're own ring tones?

Re: Release Date

My Samsung contact says August at the earliest, but September most likely. The way Verizon drags their feet, that could mean October, but at this point I'd be surprised if it was later than that.

not sure about the ringtones

Why would Verizon bother to send the mail-in $50 rebate form for the SCH-A970 to their store outlets promoting purchase and activation before August 28, 2005?

my VZW rep showed me the same thing. He said it was an approved rebate form but the phone didn't "clear" at headquarters yet. He said he's gonna get another batch of rebate forms too, with another date...

The dept that prints and distributes rebate forms is way different that the dept that actually releases the hardware, I'm guessing.

As usual, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Typical for big companies!!

Actually, they work together very well, the people who test the phones conveign and approve or dissaprove the function of the product. These technical people get together with a marketing team among others and decide whither to carry the product. If it is approved for sale, then the packaging, advertising, manuals, welcome cd rom, accessories, rebates (and forms) are all hammered out and ordered. But if there was a bug or issue discovered late in the game, then they may halt things and postpone the release, even after all that is done, because think about it: If you plan on selling 100's of thousands of products that are supposed to be high end, do you want it to flop? of course not. But since so many people are risking their jobs to pro...

I doubt if you will see the 970 much before December - the FCC approval only happened on June 7,2005 and if you look at most Verizon phones, they come out about 6-8 months after the FCC approval because of all the testing. After the recent vx-8100 release with its high probability rate of voice clarity and volume problems with both the ear-piece and speakerphone - Verizon is likely to make sure the next high-end bluetooth/EVDO phone is as trouble free as possible - especially if it runs in the 300 - 500 $ price range as indicated in this forum!!

You could be right; however, Phonescoop does state a 3rd quarter release - and we're in the middle of the 3rd quarter as we speak - and they have until September 30 to be right. But even more important, on Howard Forums some Verizon employees have stated emphatically that the phone will be released on September 2. Vamos a ver!

Yeah - we've all heard this kind of stuff before about the vx-8100 - it was supposed to be March or April, then May or June and it did not come out until July 15. The vx-8100 had an FCC date of mid December 2004 - that was 7 months. I'm not saying it can't happen only that based on recent experience it probably is not likely til at least Nov. - more likely Dec.
at least in time for Xmas. 😎

The release date according to those who have access to infomanager who work for Verizon Wireless state that infomanager is showing a release date of September 2 and price of $350 on a 1 year contract and a price of $300 after a $50 rebate for a 2 year contract.

Some people just need to read forums more carefully. It has been all over howard forums and even on this site I believe.

Roland

Do you know anyone who has tested this phone? I'm just hoping that this will not be a repeat of the 8100/815 fiasco (I know more people are happy with the 815 as opposed to the 8100 but I venture to say that many are hoping that the 970 is completely different than those two phones). Do you have any personal knowledge that it will be?

Roland-

What do you think of the swivel screen? Is it solid?

Will they have a leather case for this phone, seeing that it has that swivel screen?

Thanks!!

It's going to have a leather pouch instead of the standard leather case.

So because its been in the forums and on infomanager , etc. - it means that 100% for sure its gonna happen on 9/2! Lets get real -
"the game is'nt over until the fat lady sings" in this case the game being all the bantering about concerning the "real" release date. We know in the past for Verizon the real release date is only defined by the date it is released and nobody (even Verizon employees) know when this is going to occur! 😁 🙄

OK ROLAND, I am not hating....I have no date listed, I know that inventory for west shows it as "not in stock" though. BTW, how would the company feel about you releasing info that isn't to be released...didn't you sign the papers about that when you were hired? I'll bet you did. You are a Sales rep aren't you? I am just letting people know there is not a date listed yet, because I have to deal with IRATE people who want it when it isn't really available. K? I'm DONE!

That is correct...No one knows, not even VZW employees, that says it all.
