ENABLE DUN ON YOUR PHONE!!!!

Percman

Jul 7, 2005, 2:19 AM
DUN, dial-up networking, can be enabled very easily on the e815...

just dial ##DIALUP (##342587) into your phone rather quickly, almost as if you were making a call.

when you type in the last number, a screen pops up saying dial-up networking enabled.

do disable DUN, simply rinse and repeat 🙂

its as easy as that folks, it almost seems to good to be true.

fyi this was taken from superdave on ho-fo. im only giving credit where credit is due.

Ok, so now that DUN is enabled on the phone, what needs to happen next.

I assume that the PC you are using needs to have bluetooth (or can you use the USB cable also).

What needs to be confgiured on the PC in order to get internet access. Also does the phone need to have an thing else configured in it, or just typing in ##DIALUP (##342587) is all you need.

How does the PC gain access to the internet through the phone. Is a dial-up account (Earthlink, AOL, etc neccessary?)

Also for those who have done it, what types of speed are we talking about here..

Thanks for the info..

It still going to be slow speeds.

I believe u need mobile phone tools (from verizon) to get it to work properly.

you do need the data cable, thne u can hack it to get the bluetooth to work.

I hope this helps

I thought DUN simply allowed your phone to act as a modem for a laptop, for instance, that has a BT card in it?

You may remember correctly, but you're wrong about this phone. I can use DUN with the phone connected to my laptop via USB or Bluetooth using the windows dialers I get speeds on the EVDO network in the 600kbps range, slightly slower than my WiFI but not bad....Not sure what the charges are going to be...at this point it may only use my minutes....not sure at all about that.

I work for Verizon, so I was able to grab me a E815 at work to do. I did a ## Dailup with worked for me on the first try.
But I was unable to pair the over Via bluetooth.
the device would almost pair, but the E815 would take the Pin.
So I guess I will have to flash the phone.
I bought a mobile office kit for like 20 bucks at a local verizon store. and I'm try to flash my V710 first to see if it works, I don't care if I fry this phone....
I'll Post updates if I get it to work, then I'm order a e815, and try it

Here is what I have been able to find out.

I have been able to create a DUN with the e815 by using the mobile phone tools and while the phone is connected via the USB cable, dila out to my ISP and surf the web.

When I tried to do this using the bluetooth setup, I get an error telling me

"The requested service is not running on this device. Please make sure the service is enabled on the device or select another one to continue"

I went to a VZW location and was told by a tech that I woould "go to jail" if I did this.
I let him know that I was able to do it using the MPT with the USB and asked when the police were going to come and get me?

After some words, I left the store and am now on the phone with VZW customer service to ...

Someone else also suggested that connecting my phone to my PC to use as a USB Modem violated my contracted ... however I have the Mobile Web option at $4.99 a month that I thought covered this kind of usage.

When you use the E815 as a USB modem, what kind of speed do you get?

I just got off the phone with VZW.

The technican was not aware of any reason why I was not able to connect using the BT and use my e815 as a modem.

Hecalled Motorola and asked them if there was something on the phone that needed to be changed and they suggested calling HP and ask them how to update my iPaq's operating system. The reasoning was that the e815 is a very new phone and my PDA may not support the connection to the e815.

ARGHHHH!!

I will get to the bottom of this!

So the only place you get EV-DO speeds with this phone is actually ON the phone?

You can't extend that data speed to a device via USB Cable or DUN over BT?

Wow that is a real disappointment. So I can browse ringtones in Get It Now at broadband speeds? Big deal.

You have to enter it pretty quickly for it to register.
You won't have to hit send, as it will let you know you entered it quickly enough by giving a message that says "changed Dial up networking enabled"

In simple terms what is DUN? Also, does this phone have the same earpiece volume difficulty that the 710 originally had?

DUN is dial up networking...With this phone via USB or Bluetooth (if you do the seem edit on howard forums) you can connect at EVDO speeds i.e. 600 kbps. It remains unclear how or if verizon is going to charge for this....
For more info go to howardforums and READ...don't just ask...there are lots of posts about this and how to get it working READ FIRST

So I connected my phone and created a dial up profile in windows and I was connected via the USB at 115.5kbps although the phones display shows 14.4k. So the EV-DO does not have any affect on the speed of a dial up connection.

If there is another way to cennect to get a faster connection, please let me know.

GREAT NEWS!!!

I just got my third e815 and I have BT DUN working on it without using seem edit.

First phone had a bad keypad. Phone was replaced with a brand new one right out of the box.

Second phone did not have vCast loaded on it. Phone was replaced with a brand new one right out of the box.

Third phone is working great. Can't wait to get to an evdo area and see if the connection speed is any better than 14.4.

Will keep you posted.

The reason you cannot dial in anymore is not because of your ISP. Verizon has most likely found out that you where using DUN and have not payed for there "Broadband Access" and disabled this feature for your phone.

I would check and see if you still have access to VCAST... hopefully they didn't disable all access to the EVDO system.

Funny you would say that as I thought of that myself.

I dialed the ISP number directly from the phone and stayed connected for a while but when I tried to connect usinig the PDA and 815, I get hung up on so you are probably right.

I will keep working on this until I have it working.

I will keep you posted.

Talk about a conspiracy!!

I went to the local VZW office to complain about the DUN not working and I had to show the "tech" what I was trying to do as he had no idea what I was talking about.

while I was showing him the process of creating a dial up network using my PDA it actually worked!!

WHAT THE HELL!
