It's such a shame! The phone is so beautiful. VZW is like Tonya Harding, and this phone is as innocent as Nancy Kerrigan. It's seems like it's 1994 again!

Someone must have a way to make it uncrippled. I would say its in the phones BIOS and a simple making it say cripple=false should work, no? Custom firmware? I'm willing to sacrifice my warranty to get it uncrippled. If not I think we call can say **** you to VZW and go to Cingular

If you think you are pulling one over on VZW by going to Cingular, than you would only be crippling yourself. Its service is much more inferior to VZW. And the V710 I own is the best VZW phone ever made. Excellent sound quality (not tiny), FULL duplex speaker phone, and more features than you can shake a stick at. In fact it out features the Motorola Razor by havng a memory slot in it. In any case. There are several ways to skin this cat and the 710 is not crippled for me. Bluetooth alows me to connect to the internet from my Dell Axim and my bluetooth laptop. I can also transfer my pics and movies from the phone to my PC via the Transflash card, I sync up my contacts from Outlook with my USB cable and phone tools. I make MP3 ringers from my...

You can't say VZW is better than Cingular or vice versa, 'better' is just a matter of opinion and a matter of where you are, your area you live in, and so on.

My cousin is with VZW, I'm with Cingular. He gets no reception whatsoever in his home, on the other hand I do, not full bars but surely nothing that says "No Service". So who's crippled there?

I have never gone anywhere and have not gotten a signal, I've never had a problem with Cingular. And he's never had a problem with his, except in his home.

So, in conclusion, in MY area (Chicago/Chicago suburbs) Cingular is just as good as VZW, and better when it comes to service in my cousins house.

Ha ha. You'd switch from Verizon to Cingular because of a phone?!? Are you kidding me? Wow...

I think a lot of people feel that way.

For instance, look at the ongoing class action lawsuit against Verizon for their false advertising regarding the V710's bluetooth capabilities...

Just my two cents.

Cheers all,

Speaking of that lawsuit I took a trip to my local Verizon store and was talking one of the employees who was supposedly the "phone guru" of the store about the 710...I inquired on the bluetooth and asked if I could use it to connect with my laptop or my ppc and he said yeah with the bluetooth on the phone I could dial out and connect to the internet and then sync though bluetooth and such of course we all know he is wrong.

It makes one wonder if Ver...

Yeah, well as much BS as the whole VZW/Bluetooth issues is, I still would not go with any other provider. Unless you are going to die without fully functional bluetooth capabilities, Verizon is the best provider in the USA, hands down...In terms of coverage, dropped call rates and other technical aspects. My brother works for a third party company that has been and currently is traveling around the country testing all the US wireless providers' networks and Verizon out-performs all the other providers 9 out of 10 times. What baffles me is why Verizon is so hesitant about carrying sweet phones. It always seems that whenever Verizon comes out with something "new" its already some other company's "old" (except the whole V-Cast thing, which ...

Actually, you always could use the V710 as a modem. I bought a Belkin USB Bluetooth adapter for my laptop and the computer found the Motorola modem and connected just fine.

Slow, but fine.

There is a myth that the DUN profile is disabled.

The V710 w/ Object Exchange profile never existed, I am convinced.

Motorola did not make any V710's for sale with OBEX. You can go to the black market, or to Wireless Imports and offer to pay thousands $$ and still it is not available. Not from USCC, Alltel, South Korea, Japan. Motorola did not ship any with OBEX and Bluetooth SIG did not Qualify the device for that profile.

Any reports of OBEX file transfer ever existing on the V710 are a hoax.
