External LCD

I have a Samsung SCH-a570 I just bought. Not a bad phone but was wondering about the external LCD panel. When somebody calls it doesn't light up so when it is dark out and I get a phone call I can't tell who is calling. Is something wrong with my phone or can I turn it on some how or did they forget to put a light on the thing?
