The 6170 is GSM......
6255i is CDMA.....

what exactly is the difference in a phone bein gsm and cdma? u can tell i dont kno much about phones 🤭

They are different digital wireless technologies. They are not compatible with each other at all. So you need to know what kind of digital they use here is a small list of GSM and CDMA providers.

Cingular
T-Mobile
Dobson
Viaero Wireless
SunCom
CDMA
Verizon
Sprint
US Cellular
Western Wireless
Cricket
Metro PCS
Alltel
There are many more CDMA and GSM providers in the US.
Western Wireles does GSM in part of their network for roamers.
Rural Cellular is CDMA in some parts like MN and GSM in other parts northeast and northwest.
