WOrdie, I forgot to ask.......

.....does the outside screen stay lit all the time? I'm hoping so. I hate having to press a button to check my signal strength / time of day / etc. Personally, I'd take a black and white outer display that stays on over a color display that doesn't. Thanks.

Sad to say, but the outside display does not stay on all the time.

No it does not, but even it there were a way to make the backlight remain on (that would drain the hell out of the battery) there is a screen saver that Nokia has been using for a while that 'flips' the screen from half filled, top to bottom-- and displays the current time on the half that is not covered at the moment...

So no information is provided when the phone is on 'standby' other than the time... which is provided in the dark. ☹️

You can press the outside button once to bring up the backlighting-- something that took 3 presses and a hold with my 8900.

Shoot 😢

I don't care about showing the time. I like being able to glance at my signal strength bars while driving w/o having to press any buttons. Oh well. At least it has only ONE side-button 😁

It actually has one 'button' on the right side of the phone and a rocker switch on the left side for volume--

Oh yeah, the voice/camera button. But it's located WAY up high and out of the way. Plus I believe it even flips up higher when one opens the flip. True? What's the rocker switch for and does it cause any beeping/interference/ etc if pressed during a call?

Yes the voice/camera button is on the top flip, so when opened it's out of the way-- the rocker is for in call volume... so if you press it durring a call (and even outside a call which I do not get... but whatever) it will light the backlights and display the volume levels and you adjust them up and down with a slight 'beep'.
