To use my HS820, do I have to turn on BLUETOOTH on the phone first?

To use my HS820, do I have to turn on BLUETOOTH on the phone first?

Doesn't that defeat the point???

Can't I leave Bluetooth turned on my phone all the time?

Please advise!

Thanks

You must first bond the phone with the 820. Bluetooth does not stay "on" on the phone - you can turn off the 820 which effectively disconnects it from the phone and turns off Bluetooth. Read your 820 manual, it mostly explains all of this.

That kinda stinks....is it the same with the HS810??

I will have to turn BLUETOOTH "on" and then I can use it the headset...I wish it always stayed "on" on the phone.

Once you turn it on it does remain on, however don't turn off the HS820, doing so means you'll have to go to the menu, then option 7, then * and re-bond with the headset, including putting the key in again.

What I do instead is let the phone lose connection with the headset by leaving it in my car, or in my house and in doing so it stops searching for it until you press the button on the HS820 again, at which time it auto bonds without any button presses from you.

(correct me if I'm doing something wrong here)

I'm able to turn the HS820 on and off with no issues. On the phone, I leave Bluetooth turned on at all times. Make sure you are not using the option to turn Bluetooth on temporarily on the 710.

Yeah, you're doing something wrong. 🙂 But I'm not sure what. The easiest way bluetooth works is this:

1. You turn BT "ON" on the phone, set it to stay on all the time (answers OP question). IME impact on battery life isn't that big a deal.

2. You pair the headset with the phone.

3. You can turn any BT headset on or off at any time without losing the pair/bond. When you turn the headset back on, you don't need to re-pair the devices ...

I have one question related to all of this.

I noticed that my HS810 when initially turned on, will blink the blue light for about 10 minutes then stops blinking.

I first thought it was searching for the phone, but it blinks too long for that. It works fine when it is not blinking.

Could it be so that it does not run down the battery? What does the blinking light indicate on the headset?

Thanks.

On the 820, the blinking light is just a "power indicator" - nothing to do with pairing. It goes to "sleep" with non-use after a set time (10 mns sounds about right), but will start doing it again when it is being used- it didn't turn off, just no need to keep blinking if it was in standby-

I have the 820 and I think its great, however... I have already missed calls because I failed to "unbond" the device, and my phone didnt ring... not for nothing, but I prefer not to wear it all the time, only when I am actually on the phone.

i had the same problem and it drove me crazy, when the v710 first came out my local radioshack only had the hs820 instock so thats what i bought,i then after a couple weeks i went in to tell them about this problem and the very smart sales man told me that you had to press and hold the button on the side of the headset and open the phone to make sure that the bluetooth signal unpaired.by now they had the hs810 wich they showed me.this headset is soooooo much better than the 820 ,with the 810 when you flip the boom adapter open it automatically pairs with the phone and when you flip the boom closed it unpairs every time.its the greatest. so i recommend that you exchange the 820 for the 810 ,its only $20 bucks more but its well worth it!

Nope...I disagree....the HS820 is MUCH better...it looks less "dorky" and works just as well...
