I didn't see this posted anywhere so I figured I'd post it for those who are interested.

I just went on GIN with my V710 and the had the Mobile IM app available. You won't find it under Messaging though. I believe it was under Featured Apps but anyways I downloaded it and it works like a charm.

I have that problem too, but not to every person. For instance I can't send myself an IM to my desktop machine, but I can send one to other people on my buddy list. One thing I thought of is that I have spaces in my screename on my desktop. Is that true for you too? That's the only thing I can figure out that would allow me to send to other, but not to someone with spaces in their screename.

Very cool. But it does say that each IM will count as a text message. So unless you pay each month for a txt messaging plan you will be charged per incoming and outgoing message. It was just free to download the app.

If you download the application, it said use is FREE and unlimited. How do you know they charge you as a txt message?? According to the download, there's no charge... that should be a good argument with Verizon!

How did you confirm that there is a charge for this? It looks like a pretty cool application and seems to even run in the background and alert you when a message comes in, right?

If you read what it says after you download the software onto your phone it clearly states that you will be charged for text messaging just as if you were doing a normal text message. Not in those exact words.
