I have a Lincoln LS with built-in bluetooth, and I'm finding that the sound quality of my new V710 when using this built-in bluetooth system is horrible. I've had difficulty carrying on conversations with people, and I never had that problem with my Samsung and it's hard-wired car kit. With the bluetooth, people keep saying that they can't understand what I'm saying. Then when I switch off the bluetooth and talk into the phone they say that it sounds MUCH better. Tonight I had my son take my car and phone for a drive and call me at home so that I could hear for myself what it sounds like. They're right! The voice quality is so poor that it's barely intelligble. It sounds very weak, tinny, and somewhat garbled.
I don't know whether...

I occasionally have the same problem. When the battery power gets low in my (Motorola) Bluetooth headset is when it seems to sound “tinny” or garbled, or if the phone is set next to some other electronic device.
I’ve heard from people that I’ve talked to that when I use the (fully charged) Bluetooth it sounds fine, if not a little tinny compared with the V710’s own microphone. This is probably because of a combination of the microphone used in the Bluetooth, which has to use low power, yet be able to pick up voice from far away from your mouth and filter out ambient noise, and the narrow bandwidth used by the Bluetooth headset for voice, again probably to conserve power.
Before I used a Jabra Bluetooth, the one that has the “univers...

I'm not talking about headsets, I'm talking about built-in bluetooth hands-free car kits.

Do you know someone with another Bluetooth-enabled phone that you can try in your Lincoln? Maybe the microphone in the Lincoln isn't positioned correctly or something like that.
I've used my V710 with the built-in carkit in the '04 Acura TL, and don't have any of the problems you describe. I just wish the Acura carkit would let me use the voice dialing capabilities of the V710 so I wouldn't have to learn how to use to VR systems! 😡

I have a friend with a bluetooth enabled phone (a Sony Ericsson T616). I'm going to borrow it in a couple of hours and try it out in my car. If the sound quality is still bad, then I guess I've got a problem with my car's bluetooth system. If the sound quality is much better, then I guess the problem is with my V710. If that's the case, then the fact that your phone sounds fine through your TL's bluetooth system would suggest that I must have a defective phone. If so, I'll exchange it. I'm 11 days into the 14-day return period.
The microphone is mounted at the top center of the windshield just above the rear view mirror, and that's where the instructions say it's supposed to be mounted. At first I thought it might be picking up so...

Cool! If you know where your car's BT antenna is, you could bring the V710 closer to it to see if there's something wrong with the wireless link somewhere. This won't tell you if there's a wireless problem - if things get better how do you know if it's a problem with V710 or the car? But if things get better that does rule out defects in the mic audio path in your car.

The sound quality in my Lexus with a V-710 bluetooth connection is very good. It sounds like it may be a car problem.

Thanks hcpollard, that's good to know. I just paired my friend's Sony Ericsson phone with the bluetooth system in my car, and it sounded equally as bad as the V710. That tells me that the problem is with the bluetooth system in my car - not the V710. I'm going to try messing around with the microphone location a little bit to see if that helps any. If not, then I'm going to remove the bluetooth kit from my car and take it back to the dealer for a refund.
