File Transfer Disabled in Bluetooth

After trying and trying and trying to get the Phone Tools 2.1.2f to work last night (it just stuck at Intializing...), I went on a hunch and tried to to file transfer from both my Palm and PC. Guess what? Nada.

The Palm just barfs and gives no reason but the PC actually has to search for the device first and even though I put the V710 into "Find Me" mode, the PC never does.

So this would explain why the Phone Tools doesn't work since it does use the file transfer protocol to get the address book over to the phone.

What a bummer. I can't believe Moto disabled this! One of the most useful features of BT and the kill it! I'm totally ticked.

And of course my service call, routed to India, will get no answer other then, "That...

Are you using the Motorola Bluetooth adapter with your PC? Their commerce site seems to think there shouldn't be any problems?

Based on what others have been saying, I'm wondering if they've just locked out connecting via, "Non-Moto" products?

I have been able to connect my v710 via bluetooth using my logitech MX900 keyboard and mouse bluetooth hub. It works pretty flawlessly, but I have yet to be able to transfer anything. I do not have phone tools as of now, but I am downloading version 3.11e (beta from a Moto insider) so hopefully it will work.

I will let you know how it works. If 3.11 works fine, I can try to arrange to distribute it to some people.

That's really encouraging! If you can get anything to Synch with Outlook, I'd really like to know.

Thanks! 🙂

Guys,

I'm pretty sure bluetooth file and contact transfer is never going to work without a phone software update. The phone bluetooth profile necessary for file transferring (usually called OBEX - Object Exchange) does not exist. Without this profile on the phone, no version of Mobile Phone Tools is going to do it.

When connecting the phone to a PDA or notebook, all the profiles available on the phone are pulled over and reported by the notebook/PDA. OBEX is not one of them. Therefore, no bluetooth file transfers.

How did you manage to get the mx900 to search for bluetooth devices? I don't have the same phone as you, but I'd really like to be able to use the mx900 to connect my phone with my pc.

No, I'm using Kensington's. If it's due to non-Motorola products, that's WRONG.

No, the site specifically mentions compatibility only with v600, which is not crippled in that sense.
