Handset Call Volume

Sobes

Jul 30, 2004, 12:29 PM
I've been reading about a lot of people complaining about the volume of the earpiece in the handset speaker while on a call. I was wondering if any current V710 owners could comment on this? I currently have a T720 and I consider the call volume to be on the low side but acceptable. Is the V710 in call volume similar to the T720?

All VXXX phones have low volumes because the FLEX aka software has the max loudness set to a low level so 7 is the max loudness of that level. You can seem edit like people do on vXXX phones and get a louder volume.

I found your message in another thread about this seem editing. However I'm assuming this is something that you need to be on a PC to do right? I'm a Mac user so I guess if I want to attempt this I'll have to borrow someone's PC.

If you use the bluetooth headset, the volume is fine...way too loud at first and able to adjust lower.

Anything we can do about the speaker volume???

Or--has anyone figured out how to use the speaker with the phone closed??

Only if you can use P2KMan to read the seem off the phones like the other VXXX phones as the volume number at 7 is just the max of whatever the setting is below..

gain_table.bin

**all offsets are HEX**

offset 0D earpiece volume (original setting: 01)
offset 19 inner keypad volume (original setting: 01)
offset 31 speakerphone volume (original setting: 01)
offset 49 ringtone/video volume (original setting: 01)
offset 4E system tone volume (original setting: 0😎

settings from 00-08

earpiece volume affects sounds coming out of the earpiece when on a call
inner keypad volume affects sounds coming out of the earpiece when NOT on a call (touchtones, button press beeps)
speakerphone volume affects sounds coming out of the extern...

Even on a Mac, you can get VirtualPC and then run whatever PC software you want. Basically, it's hex editing the FLEX (Software) of the phone and not the actual OS (Flash). Ofcourse I don't have the V710 yet so I don't know if you can get those files off using P2KMan and the P2K Drivers.

I really wonder why Motorola does this... it seems like their phones are always lacking for volume... if the switch were less complicated, I think a lot of people would do it.

Don't know... I mean when I got my V80 as a second phone to compliment my V60c a month ago, the volume was pretty low compared to the v60c so I did exactly that and now everything is like really loud. Maybe they don't want to blow the speaker or something.

Yep, I tried the phone out today at the Radio Shack and the volume wasn't that bad. It wasn't as loud as the v60c but the v60c isn't as loud as my StarTAC 7868W either. I wonder if the lower volume is to consume battery life since color phones are battery drainers.
