I discovered that I was positioning the phone incorrectly on my ear. If you notice that the hole in the flap for the speaker is out near the end. Many phones it is a little farther in from the edge. Because of this, you have to move the phone more forward than normal to place the speaker over the ear canal.

Well, you need to seem edit the phone assuming you can get the seem off the phones like with the other P2K based V series phones.

On my V80, the default volume is 2 but when you can increase it up to 8. Which is different from the setting on the phone as 7 on the phone means 100% of the setting on the seem.

If there is a no way to fix the volume, do you think a software fix will fix the problem. We need to find out from someone if they know someone that works at Motorola. If we contact the right person, maybe they can let the engineers work on a solution. Same goes for the picture Quality, I wonder its worse than the V600(According to some posts) shouldnt it be the same design but with a few extras.

The way to fix the volume is to seem edit the flex. The volume by default is only like 1 or 2 out of 8 as the max.

You're missing my point. The phone by default in the software has the max at 1 out of 8. When you have is at level 7 with the volume control, that is only the max of 1 on the software. Think of it like this, the internal volume is set to a max of 1 so unless you change it to 2, your 7 is just as loud as the 1 will go. Read Howard Forums in the Motorola section on seem editing on the gain_table.bin and you'll know what I mean exactly.

And what I meant by the volume is not the volume you're talking about. The 0-7 you control with the buttons is only able to max out the max volume that is set in the software which is at 1 out of 8 right now. You change the number to 2 and it'll be twice as low even at 7. At around 6 on the software's volume level, there will be echo and distortion. The phone itself has a volume setting and then the one you control only allows you to hit the max of whatever the setting in the software is.

Is this summary correct? ...There are 8 volume settings on the software, which are not meant to be changed by the consumer. Within each setting are 7 subsettings which can be consumer controlled. The ...

Not 56 but there is 9 since it goes from 0-9. Think of the volume buttons as a percentage of the actual number set in the software. 7 would be 100% of whatever the setting is in the software.

interesting about the volume and subsettings, but is there any way to actually change to the next volume level without hacking into the software?

Nope since it's in the software. I guess we're just waiting for someone who has the V710 already to try to use P2KMan on the phone and see if they can access the phone or not.

P2Kman does not recognize the v710. Any other solutions? I would love to put some other functions on this phone. The only connectivity I get is mobile tools from motorola. I paid 30 bucks to d/l from motorola. Their site specifically says the software will enable you to u/l and d/l ringers, etc. Of course with the v710 the functionality is disabled.

I don't have the V710 to play around with anymore since my friend went on vacation with it. I tried P2KMan July 2, 2004 version and it didn't work but there is a newer July 27, 2004 version. P2KMan uses P2K drivers from Motorola and it should work but it doesn't. Here is the information from the manual of P2KMan so perhaps those of you can contact the author using the link provided to see if they can get it working for you...

P2KMAN is a filemanager for Motorola cellphones, based on P2K interface. P2K is a standard for data exchange between mobile phone and computer. P2K interface supports C350, C350L, C450, C550, V150, V6x, T72x and some other Motorola cellphone models.

The program is developing rapidly, new versions appear almost...

The ear volume is horrendous on this thing! I f there's any background noise you can't hear ish! Before I got the 710 I had a V60 for verizon and I currently have a V400 through my local provider. Both those phones have loud ear volumes. I can't understand why the 710 has a whisper like ear volume. Can a verizon wireless tech fix this? This is ridiculous!

P.S. The camera on my v400 is much better and much more vivid than the v710

I agree, however it helps if you position your ear right over the earpiece. Its very easy for your ear to slip and then virtually hear nothing. Its a problem indeed. Guess you will just have to use the bluetooth headset ;)

Yep, that happened with the StarTAC and v60c as well. The speaker has to be right where your ear canal is or else, something is blocking the sound.

I have to agree with this post. The volume on this phone is terrible. I posted on this forum that the problem with VZW is they stink when it comes to new phones. They could have turned this perception around with this phone, but I do think they have missed the boat once again. You need a phone first to make and receive calls. If you can not hear the other person, what good is the pone? Nice attempt VZW, but you don't seem to be capable of delivering the results!

I thought the same thing at first. The speaker vent for your is very small and you can't move the phone much without losing the sweet spot. You'll get used to it.
