Motorola V710

Screwed The Pooch
by badsky2k Today, 2:00 PM
Well it seems that VZW really screwed the pooch today. Radio Shack IS SELLING V710's TODAY in limited quantity through direct retail only!
How in the hell did you guys let a second tier vendor beat you to the draw? I hope that you do know that you have disappointed a great deal of people (both new & current customers).
There is absolutely no excuse for this. I don't want to hear the "party line" about RS buying VZW branded phones from Motorola direct. It is VZW BRANDED equipment and a VZW activation!
Now the rest of us have to wait till Aug 11??? Your sales & marketing "managers" must be smoking their socks to let this ha...

Let's consider:
1: Each RS only gets 2 (or so) phones. In about an hour they sell out, RS needs to deal with angry people NOT getting one. Verizon sits back and smiles -- Everyone KNOWS they aren't available at their stores yet, so only a fraction of the people are calling them upset.
2: Only 5000 or so phones get out there, so the help desk at Verizon doesn't get flooded with calls. They now have a few weeks to learn all the issues and FAQ's -- they can really get tech support ready for the main rush.
3: Many "early adopters" get the phone at RS, which means lots of potential NE2 $100 discounts don;t need to be paid out -- saves a bit (not much, but anot...

And no one has one when the new ad shows up!

Hey I don't know if u realize but eventhough RadioShack's are a small sore... they sell more cell phones than any other company. Think about it. There's over 7000 RadioShack's nationwide and each store averages about 100 - 150 cell phones a month. Now the verizone store might sell more per day but they don't have nearly as many stores. So like u said "the guy that can spend more... gets more! Just ask Wal-Mart!" RadioShack sells more then they can spend more and they GET more! Just thought i'd help u understand why radioshack gets them in earlier.
HERE'S A THOUGHT
I work for a Verizon sales call center. We take inbound sales calls. I sell approximately 300-400 phones per m ...

Further more I don't see Motorola opening up the registration if Radio Shack sells units early (before VZW corp stores).
Everyone seems to be stuck on this August 1 thing on the website. It has changed before and could and probably will change again.
So people who think they are getting hosed with this whole thing need to stop and think it through.
