Just an FYI

For those people who are planning to get a one year agreement when they buy this phone.... I just got the new RadioShack flyers for next month and the V710 is in it. The price with a two-year agreement is $249.99 after a $70 MIR as the press release said. The difference is that RS only raises the price $30 for a one-year, not $50 like VZW stores. And yes, you would still get the $70 MIR. The phone obviously isn't in stores yet, but I'll be sure to let you all know when it is coming. Granted, the VZW stores will probably get it first, but how long have we been waiting so far... what's another couple of days?

Just thought give a heads up to the people like myself who hate going to the VZW stores.

P.S.
Sorry to you all who work at V...

I cant believe people sign up for 2 year agreements...not that I plan on leaving verizon, but merely for the upgrade. Id rather pay the extra $30-50 for the phone upfront, and not have to wait the extra year to upgrade. in 2 years, this phone will be absolutely sub par...the phones then will be ridiculous. just think, 2 years ago, color phones werent even out yet. since then, they added cameras, video cameras, speakerphones, mp3s players, bluetooth etc...

but do as you will, Id personally rather pay the $30-50 extra dollars with 1 yr agreement and keep my cell up on technology ;)

I purchesed my Samsung a530 in Oct/Nov 2003, w/ a 2yr contract. I was told I could upgrade my phone now but the only thing is my new every 2 would not be used and the new every 2 would start when I upgraded. I'd rather keep up with technology and lose the $100 discount, but that is just me.

I dont understand this post. do you agree with me or disagree?

How could you have signed up for a 2 year contract last year and be eligible for an upgrade now? unless you know someone or something, that breaks the whole point of a 2 year contract 😛

Actually I heard there is a $70.00 Rebate with the pone, to ge the rebate you must sign a 2 year contrct. So the savings is 120.00 from a 1 year and 2 year..

my point exactly

now take for instance the v710. I get a 1 year contract, and pay $350. next year the new crazed phone comes out (use the same prices as the v710 to make it easier), I pay $300 - $70 MIR for it. so...

$350 (v710 1 yr)
$300 - $70 (for next years new phone plus rebate)
-------------------
I spend $570 on these 2 phones.

Now take the 2 year contract person. They get the phone for $300 - $70 MIR...next year rolls around, and they arent eligble for an upgrade...and the only way for them to ge...

When you sign up for a contract you commit to being with that service for the length of the contract. The VZW incentive is after you serve 2 yrs whether it is a 1 yr or 2 yr contract you get $100 off to use to purchase a new phone. I would guess you can upgrade after a certain amount of time but you have to renew your contract when you upgrade. This is a V710 forum and sorry to not talk about it.
I am finally excited about a new VZW phone!!!

Me too! I'm new to Verizon but was with AT&T for many years and I have a drawer full of TDMA and a few GSM phones. I've never been one to hold onto an "old" phone in order to take advantage of discounts and such. If a new phone comes out that I like, I buy it! I managed to hold on to my T720 for an entire year, but before that, I got a new phone on the average of every 6-8 months. If I end up having to put out $300.00+ so be it. Wouldn't be the first time.......and it won't be the last. 😉

Wow, there are more people out there like me. I went through 2 Nextels before GTE merged witht Verizon which I came from the GTE side and the Bell Atlantic side made us switch to VZW. I do understand the concept because VZW keeps our stocks up (Thanks VZW). I since had the old startac, LG flip, Kyocera Palm phone (I felt like Get Smart), V60, the Samsung T300, and now the Samsung a530. Bring on the v710. I think I need help!

Yeah you're telling me.

Had mine since FEB 02, I actually liked the features, and the work arounds that came out for it. Build quality was another story.

Lets hope motorola revives itself in CDMA this time around.
