Guys -

The people at those phone centers that you speak with are not even in the US. Most of the calls are routed to Argentina...They have no clue except for the canned answers that are on their screens.

Call the 1-800 Motorola number is a waste of time and a lesson in futility!

I am not sure where I called, except that the accent of the person with whom I spoke was American, not Argentinian. 😈

I have no idea where Motorola's call centers are located. However, I do know with absolute certainty that MANY companies have American phone numbers (toll-free or otherwise) that are routed to foreign call centers. This is a VERY VERY common practice.

As a matter of fact, I lost a job to said practice.

I've called Motorola a couple of times (not to ask when the V710 was coming out, but for service center info and etc) and have gotten a mixed bag of accents. Sometimes they sounded Indian, sometimes American, but really who can tell? The US is very multicultural.

With the exception of PowerEdge servers, Optiplex desktops, and latitude notebooks.
Thankfully these are what the majority of the business customers use, so they give us support out of the good ole USA!

Those are also items that also generate an actual PROFIT for Dell.

Also, business customers generally (as a rule) rely on tech support a bit less than the average customer of a $450 desktop computer setup.

Those two facts mean that the $sale/minute of tech support allows for more expensive suppoprt for business system customers.

I thought originally they did outsource it to India but with enough complaints, they moved it back to the US for business customers.

It's done all the time... ever hear of fiber optic network? You can call a toll free number "here in America" and it will be routed to anywhere. ATTWS has call centers in India. It's the luck of the draw when you call the toll free CS number. So YES it can be and IS done! What do you think all the fuss about outsourcing is about?

You'd be surprised what can be done with a relatively small amount of accent training. They know that if you think they are cheap foreign outsourcers, that you'll demand to speak to an American rep and/or badmouth the company.

It also apparently means that individual reps are making their own guesses. For anyone that's ever worked in a call center environment, you all know that if there was a significant piece of information such as the release of this phone, everyone in the place would know EXACTLY how to answer questions about it and every caller would receive the same, exact asnwer EVERY time.

The lack of consistent answers from VZW reps only shows that there has been no official word from the higher-ups yet. Doesn't mean that it WON'T be out next week, or in two weeks; but if it will, the decision hasn't been made public yet....
