Progressive Lookup

I was looking to get V710 soon, but not anymore. Someone at Howard Forums confirmed that brand new and higly sofisticated Motorola V710 does not have an easiest to implement feature: progressive lookup in the phonebook! All other manufacturers have it, but not Motorola. I am very disappointed! I have about 300 numbers in my phonebook, and it is a real hassle to look thru them in my current V60... I'll better get LG7000 or 9900

Can you elaborate a bit on what “Progressive Lookup” is? Thanks.

progressive lookup allows you to enter the numbers which spell the name of the contact.

i.e.

if i have a contact named 'roger'
i just have to enter 7-6 and if no other contacts start with R-O then you can dial just after hitting 2 keys.

I like the v710 way of doing things. Just say "roger" and it'll dial. I don't even have to have the cell phone out... Just my Bluetooth headset.

The models that are out already are test models, so when the production model comes out it sill might have the Progressive Lookup option ! 😁

Progressive lookup is the feature of phonebook. You can enter letter "k", then letter "r" and the phonebook jumps to the name starting with "kr". Current Motorola models do it the other way. They jump to letter "r" instead. So if you have a large phonebook and many entries on certain letters, it is extremely inconvenient to browse thru names instead of jumping right to the name you want. As for V710 voicedialing, I am sure it is a great feature, but will it recognize all the accents people speak with in New York? Will it recognize all possible pronanciations and spellings of the name "Green", for example: "Grin", "Greane", "Grean", etc.
Voice recognition software is not in 24th century yet...

I've had voice-dial and progressive lookup on my Kyocera 3035 for years. I've used them both, and while you can argue that the voice function is more advanced, it's not as fast, and you do have to take time to set it up for each user, and, at least with my phone, the cable and software I purchased will not back those up.

Progressive lookup is a feature that belongs in a phone.

The V710 doesn't need to be programmed. It has independent voice features.
