So does anyone actually know why Verizon hasn't offered the newer Motorola flip phones?
Everyone keeps saying it's coming soon, but I haven't read so anywhere.
I have been a Verizon customer for many years and it's time for me to upgrade, but I very hesitant about getting an LG.
Anyone have any actual information?

VZW has not offered any new flip Motorola phones for 3 reasons. First, Motorola is not as concerned about keeping VZW happy as they are Nextel, who only sells Motorola phones. Nextel has Motorola right where they want them and when Nextel says jump, Motorola says how high.

Secondly Motorola develops phones and has to contract with the carrier before the phone is complete because much of the technology like GSM, CDMA, TDMA needs to be developed for the specific phone. Once they get a commitment from the carrier who then guarantees they will purchase a certain number of phones, the carrier then makes Motorola agree that they will only manufacturer that phone for that carrier. Due to my third reason VZW went a few months without contracti...

Thanks for all the info.
I figured it was something a long those lines.
I looked at the LG VX6000. but it's a little too big.
I've been eyeing the LG VX4600 which seems very similar except without the camera.
Luckily, my current motorola still works so I don't have to make a decision right away.
I guess I can wait a little longer to see what Verizon offers by Motorola.

Unless Verizon changed its sales policy in the last week, if you are a current customer of Verizon, you can't get the 4600! Only for new customers. Go figure.

dude i don't know where you get your information from but Motorola owns stake in Nextel. That whole direct connect thing was made by Motorola. Motorola is in the business to make phones. I'm not trying to sound like i know how it works but i have to disagree on your theory, I cant imagine the reason why verizon has not had any new phones made by Motorola is cause of nextel. If You notice Motorola dose not make alot of phones. I mean there biggest new phone that came out was the V600 GSM phone. Motorola is out to make money i don't think they are going to not make a phones for a certain Carrier just cause they are in direct competition. but this is my own opinion 🙂

The Wiz has it right on. The good news is that Motorola has really focused back on Verizon with the V710 (and the new GSM version and some other phones to come). I've got to play with V710 and it is REALLY slick! Look for Motorola to really get going starting about the end of May with this one! I am using the VX6000 right now- the camera is not great but the phone has been excellent. No .3 meg camera is going to make me happy, though. I own a photo lab! I LOVE the fact that Motorola is using removable media for this phone!
The other thing about Verizon 'push-to-talk'- Verizon's software wasn't ready for 'prime-time' either- so after Motorola put all the effort into building a PTT phone for Verizon, they had no orders! Verizon will soon laun...

Actually wiz, you are wrong about motorla and nextel. motorola owns the iden technology that nextel uses and just licenses it to nextel. so, in effect, motorola owns nextel, since no other company can manufacture an iden phone.
