e-mail client support?

So, Moto has removed e-mail client support for the V710? This according to http://www.motorola.com/mot/doc/1/1111_MotDoc .pdf compared to the same document from last week, and they reduced the ram? What gives? Can anyone give us some infomation on what features this phone will have regarding Bluetooth and email? 😡

Possibly because Verizon wants them to make the phone less expensive. Verizon will be subsidizing part of the cost of this phone for some subscribers (new every two, new customers, other promotions), so they want something easier to swallow in terms of total price.

The same thing happened with the 270C. They forced Motorola to knock out the reflective/holographic display to cut costs. If you buy a VZW-branded 270C it's a different experience than a Motorola-branded (or "non-carrier-branded") 270C.

Another possibility is scarcity of supply of a given memory chip. It seems like there are at least pseudo-functional (or fully functional?) test units out there - at CTIA, and someone here claims to be using one. Presumably they want to get t...

(each version of software needs to undergo testing, which is time and money - why do that for people who are already subscribers?)

I went in and had the sw updated on my v120c to permit me to see the date and the time in the display....

So in answer to your question for bug fixes and potentially new functionality that might keep customers on their network.

Depends on the severity/necessity/depth of the update. A date and time function is one thing. Adding an email client that will use data services and bandwidth is another - and sounds like something VZW wouldn't support anyway (LOL).

My post wasn't to say VZW never does firmware updates - of course they do. But they don't always do them, and there are cases of Motorola phones, yours probably included, for which Motorola made updates that VZW did not authorize. The V60, V120, and 270C use very similar, if not identical firmware.

How does Verizon keep customers on their network? It's not because their selection of phones and feature updates is so rich - it's because for many people in the US it's simply the best network. 🙂

How can they not offer an e-mail client in this phone--it has everything else? I have been waiting for a bluetooth phone for sometime from Verizon and now there are reducing features. I can uderstand reducing memory but removing the email client does not make sense. For them to say the client does not work would not be logical. Wireless companies are in business to sell bandwidth.
Maybe I will go with the v600 and AT&T. The V600 has an e-mail client that works besides my Verizon contract is up with Verizon anyway. Besides GSM always has a larger selection of phones with more features.

I noticed that they changed that PDF document too. They also removed "IM" from the list of messaging standards that the V710 supports but I'd bet my money that the Get It Now AIM program will work on it since that program was made for BREW 2.0 and this phone supports BREW 2.1. It's still possible that this phone will support email and that they just removed it from the PDF document. Verizon could have also asked them to remove the email client so that people won't be able to use this phone as a PDA and then ask for the $44.99 unlimited data feature (for PDA type phones) to be added on top of their regular service plan (i.e. voice minutes). Otherwise it's $79.99 for unlimited data on top of the cost of your minute plan. Of course this is...

Thanks for the input! But get it now does not support IMAP e-mail--my ISP utilizes webmail and when used with IMAP the desktop client stays synced. I do not use AOL, MSN, or YAHOO for my e-mail. The phone comes with PIM functionality why remove the ability to quickly check your personal e-mail. It would be very convenient to be able to quickly check for that expected e-mail when I am away from a computer. If "Get it Now" supported POP3 and IMAP4 email I guess it may be worth the $4.99 for messaging support, but if the phone supports its own e-mail client why remove it. Checking my e-mail would still go against my usage, but I may be the only person who does not use AOL, MSN, or YAHOO e-mail.
