No, but you can tap the voice recognition key on the right side of the phone and it will bring the display back up without having to open the phone. i read this somewhere else and it works. i was really disappointed with that feature until i found this. i travel and look to see if it is roaming frequently.

You got that right the whole purpose of the display being the way it is is to save battery life the V710 sucks up battery life like crazy thats why its almost mandatory to have a extended battery for this phone the best you can do is go to MENU,SETTINGS,TOOLS,INITAL SETUP once in there you can change the time on how long you would like the backlight on you can change the contrast and the brightness as well also keep the battery save ON that option is in that menu as well and there is also a display time out. I hope that information helps. But the higher you put your options the less battery you will have i would keep the options as close to factory settings as possible!

If you read my previous posting i told you how to make your keypad (backlight) stay lit up a little longer. Its nice to have a battery save on to save as much battery as you can. I believe you can make your backlight stay on for up to 50 seconds if i remember correctly.
