So if I read right, the software update disables the whole "mp3 xfer from transflash to phone for ringtones" thing.

"So if I read right, the software update disables the whole "mp3 xfer from transflash to phone for ringtones" thing."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
that's 100% correct. But that's easy to fix back. Everyone keeps complaining about that, and it does suck but it is easy as pie to get around that.
Just called VZW and they did not even know what I was talking about.
Anyone been into a store today and been updated?
I went to the Rt 206 Bridgewater, NJ store and they had the firmware - just got it the night before according to the head tech.
They flashed my phone on the spot, but it took them two times for it to work properly - I wound up waiting an hour. Under normal circumstances it should take 20 mins from what I've been told.
What's the whole point? Software updates were designed to IMPROVE and CORRECT the phones functionality and not to disable it's working features. As easy as the pie may seem, if I spent $300 I would not expect to have to get around anything and I also would be complaining...
I agree. But it depends on what functions you really need. I want the BT capability of syncing and car-compatibility. If this firmware improves these functions, its great.
If you need file transfer more, than its not worth it. You need to 'pick your poison'.
I completely understand the complaints and the principle behind disabling the TF file transfer. But, they have never once advertised the phone with that option (VZW), and again, it's like saying for example that they turned your tv off. Well, that sucks but how hard is it really to turn it back on? It's not. Takes all of maybe 20 secs to fix it. So fix it and get over it.
That's not the point and besids I don't have to worry about those problems cause I am proud to say I don't even own a V710. After reading all the problems everyone's having. 🤣 🤣 So get over it yourself and happy DE-BUGGING
if you don't own a v710 then why do you keep replying to the posts. go to your 8000 forum and bug people. most of the people on here love the v710 and wouldn't trade it for any of the new phones.
LOL exactly 🤣
its funny when people come here to bash the v710...just bitter people. why do they come to this forum??? I sure as hell dont go to the vx8000 forum, and im sure most of us dont. if we did, it would be to check it out, not knock it.
oh well, I guess some people have nothing else better to do.
LOL like I said in a earlier post I came to this forum to see what people thought of the 710 as I was interested but after reading all the posts with all the problems I am glad I never went with the 710. You people really crack me up. I never said the 710 was so horrible all the problems that are being written about the 710 make it that way. It just so happens I was sharing the review on Cnet and how the 8000 got a much higher rating than the 710. But if you love your 710 More power to you. Your entitled. I agree the 710 is probabely a better phone if you go with another carrier other than Verizon.
I would still have to say that the amount of memory on the 8000 limits what you can do with that phone, something the V710/E815 makes up for.
I would say the V710 is the most limited phone on the market. It's super crippled. Can't even get the flash update right.
The more time I spend on here the less and less I would consider even the E815 being that will have the same problems too except with the added EVDO. I really wanted to go with the 710 that is why I frequented this forum but like I said you people are having so many problems with it and it's a shame cause it's not your fault I have read some of the reviews and people who are ON Alltel's network are saying the blue tooth is fully functioning. Glad you enjoy your phone
Instead of turning off TV's, I think Verizon should put more energy into satisfying their customers. Besides, I don't care what anyone says, tampering with the phone and trying to fix what Verizon doesn't want you to have in the first place will only cause more problems down the line. Ever own a Palm or similar device? Try hacking the unit and make it do something it was never intended to do and guaranteed it will cause some kind of problem sooner or later.
Add a new 041a seem after the flash. Here's how:
1. read this first: http://motov710.blogspot.com/#110255153312169 866
2. download seems.zip here:
http://www.inetron.com/vzw/Custom_Images/ »
after all that, open up p2kseem_V710, upload "041a_0001_Latest_SD.seem" to your phone. Then you are done.
Once you install the software, the 041a is already edited and ready to go. Just upload it. Literally takes seconds.
Good Luck!
btw guitar_guy, I've never had one thing go wrong with my phone. I'll take my free WAP, free pix messenging, and my whole slew of enhancements and enjoy them greatly for the next two years. I don't need OBEX so this phone is perfect for me.
Glad you seem to care so much though 🙄
You'll definitely run into some kind of functionality problems down the line. Oh BTW hacking voids the warranty. You newbies just don't get it. LOL
...
Feb 16, 2005, 9:02 PM
Seriously, you must not have a clue when it comes to hacking the seems. What problems will occur later down the line? That makes no sense whatsoever ROTFLMFAO 😛 Free WAP and free Pix messenging is not illegal and we are entitled to use our own means if we like. We own the phones. Not VZW. And we are not leagally forced to use just VZW's services with our phones. I use my own computer for a server for WAP access and my own server for Pix Messenging. Thus, how will VZW catch up with my free services? It won't.
But good try. Ignorance gets you no where. Get educated on the matter and then please, try again. Until then, just keep on doing what you apparently do best....looking like a jackass 😲
Issues Resolved in Version 01.40.0R
Camera
. Improve still image after megapixel capture. This introduces a slight delay but the decimation is much improved. . Change order of resolution set so that 160x120 Thumbnail is first and 1280x960 High is last
. Improve ability to take complex pictures in highly lit areas with fast changing lighting conditions
. Fix a problem where rapidly opening/closing the flip after taking a picture could cause the handset to soft reset . Increase stability of picture taking. The two items immediately above are examples.
Bluetooth
. The phone and headset should ring during incoming calls
. Allow datebook and phonebook synchronization over Bluetooth - This feature was added due to high demand from
V710...
Ring tone transfer to the TF is disabled. What about pictures? I have a 128 MB TF card. Can I fill it up with pictures and transfer them to my PC via the SD card adapter?
HAHAHA before they can resolve the 100's of problems with the 710 they first have to resolve the problem with the release of the flash software update. whatanightmare 😳 😳 😳 😳
Went to the Verizon store yesterday (Monday). They had the upgrade but had been given instructions that day NOT to flash anymore 710s. No idea why. Another local Verizon store said their cable was broken. Yeah, right!
Is there no end to this saga?
The 1.40.OR software does not fix all of the car problems, since it does not include OBEX.
It fixes BMW, but not Prius, for example. If the car asks to initiate a file transfer on the handset, there is no way to do that without OBEX. The new flash allows the passive function of Object Push Profile only.
True, it appears that you cannot still transfer the entire phone book from the phone to the car in the Prius, but do you know if you can now at least transfer numbers one-by-one? Nobody seems to be able to answer that question definitively. I don't need more than about 10 or 20 numbers to upload so one-by-one transfer is good enough. But no transfer is worthless.
