V710 RECALL!!!!!!!!
I went into my verizon store today cuz my friend got the vx 7000 today and wanted me to go with him. while we were talking to the guy helping us, I asked him what he thought abt the v 710 phone like if he liked it and if they sold alot of them and he told me actually they just took them off the floor. He said they got recalled cuz of the camera I guess he said they found out it was messed up. thats why the camera sucks right now on this phone. He said he has no clue when there going to get new models of this phone in he said it could be a little while but he said When they come in I can get the new one for free. I just looked on the site and onthe verizon site it says sold out!! I guess thats why. just thought id give a heads up!!!

Since it is being recalled does that mean the consumers that already own the phone can return it and get it replaced by the newer model?

Yes...thats what the guy said to me. he said if ur having problems with urs too just bring it in and were give u a new one when they come out. and thats what im going to do cuz at night i always get these blue streaks when i take a pic.

Remember the phone comes with a 1 year warinty so if anything goes wrong with the phone they have to replace it with no cost!! and the camera lense which the guy said is why they got recalled is on motorola so will beable to get the new model when it comes out for free. He said they found out the camera lense was tilted to they got recalled!!

Yeah I was thinking abt that too. The new ones might have the set as ringtones option disabled and I like that option! So when the new ones come out im gonna have to check that setting on the new ones and see if its still on it or if they took it off. It wouldnt be so bad if they would put the sony music box on are phone so we can atleast get the real ringtones some how instead of that polyphonic ringtone crap.

Will this new model be a smaller version of the original V710? Also, if the VZW versions are getting recalled, won't the ones being released by USCC be recalled as well? 😕

its true they are pulling them off the shelves. i went today to one store and they said they took them back because they are going to fix the camera since the picture is slighty tilted. geez that is dumb.. all that fuss for that.. i even ordered a v710 online on friday and it said it was in stock and today the order status says out of stock. i called and i have to call back on wednesday to check stock.

Yes exactly thats what the guy told me at my local verizon store in dover, delaware he said they just pulled all of the V710 phones off the shelves cuz the camera lense is tilted or something! But it seems like some stores from what people are saying still are selling them so i guess it just all depends on where u live or some places just havent pulled them off yet.

The weird thing is...my lense isn't tilted. But the quality of the photos are poor for a 1.2 MP camera. The focus is soft.
I have a VEO camera which hooks up to my Tungsten that takes as good of pictues at a max resolution of 640X480

well, if you do a search of this forum, one of our fellow owners found this problem a long time ago. the lens is, in fact, tilted in many of the v710's. HE TOOK PICTURES OF HIS OWN DISMANTLED V710 TO PROVE IT!! its good stuff 😲 😳

Verizon has confirmed that this is an erroneous , mis-informed claim.
While Verizon is acting a bit big-brotherish with restricting this phones capabilities, they also put their phones through vigorous Quality Assurance Tests (some say this is the reason they are so slow to market with phones). So, having a recalll would be bad press...

I think they had to of been recalled. As I mentioned in an earlier post I just got my v710 last Friday with no problem and now they are out of stock. They didnt even go out of stock when they first came out, so they definately wouldnt be out of stock now unless they were pulled. It definately has to be the lens though. I have extensive camera experience and the lens on a camera can make or break a picture. Thats why people buy the nice Canon or Nikkor lenses for 35mm camera instead of the cheap Quantaray lenses. I just hope they dont try and cripple the TF card from transferring pics and mp3s to/from the phone. EVERYONE MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THIS FEATURE BEFORE YOU GET A NEWER ONE WHEN ITS RE-RELEASED (if it was in fact recalled).

Yeah i got a V710 today and my first impression was how bad teh camera was and the screen is so clear so i was thinking it was the camera or the lens. I had the vx7000 and the picture on that was better.
I also, have one question about how to get the speakerphone to stay on while the phone is closed.

Can't. Well, technically there is a thread on another site that you can hack into your phone, but that means no matter what, your speakerphone is always on. can no longer use the earpiece

Funny, I turn my speaker phone on in the morning when I turn the phone on for the first time and it stays on until I turn the phone off at night. The open/closed status of the phone does not turn it on or off.

stick a headset in and out and wiggle it a coupel of times... maybe the HS-sense switch is stuck... seen that before. 🙂 (audiovoxes had a big problem with that)

You can have the speakerphone either stay on all the time, or go off after 20 sec through the menu...

1.The phone is still listed on the verizon web site.
2. Assuming that the phone has been recalled, when it is re-released, it will be the same size (duh).
3. Only the lens will be repaired or replaced so hopefully the problem was found and fixed before the uscc and alltel versions went into production.
4. They may only be recalling certain lots instead of nationally. Seems that there should have been some sort of announcement to that effect.

I have no clue what kind of recall this is all i was told when i went to verizon yesterday is that they have pulled all the motorola v710 phones from the shelves cuz the camera was messed up. so as of right now u cant go into verizon or on the website and get this phone till they fix the prob with the camera. and like i said thats why im guessing it says sold out on the website under moto v710 cuz u CURRENTLY cant get this phone till motorola fixes the camera. No i doubt its gona be smaller or look diff there most likely just gona fix whats wrong with the camera and then bring them back out. Now over time they do change certain features on phones like the vx 7000 phones that there selling at my local store are black not blue the guy said tha...

I was at best buy 2 days ago and they had them and I was at radioshack yesterday and they had them. I just called my Verizon Wireless store to check on the software update for my wifes vx7000 and i also asked about the v710. He told me he has heard nothing about a recall and they still have them in stock and are selling them. He also said that there tech person said they are expecting the software update for the v710 in next month. The sounds in line with the Nov4th update that I was hearing. I think if they are pulling them it is to reflash them and it has nothing to due with the camera.

There is no V170 recall. Mine stopped stopped recharging so I took it to my local Verizon Wireless store (Bradenton, FL) to be replaced yesterday. They were still selling the phone. In fact, due to them being out of refurbished phones (phones they give to people whos equipment is defective and still under warranty), I was given a brand new phone right out of the box. Don't know exactly where this rumor of a recall started, but it doesn't appear to be true at all. Honestly, I wish it was. This phone obviously has some pretty severe design flaws.

There is in fact a recall. My friend works at Circuit City and showed me the email that Verizon had apparently sent out to them. It said that due to the camera malfunction they were recalling the phone until further notice. I really didn't believe this so I went to my verizon store and talked to them and at first they didn't have any clue but then the supervisor came out and informed them that it was true and that all of the V710s have been removed from the shelves. He said to call back in a week to find out more. I live in Boston so maybe it is a regional thing that has taken a while to spread? No idea, but there definitely is a recall

Glad I'm wrong then... A recall sounds like a good idea to me! Motorola should be embarrassed that they let this phone be sold to the public!

I just hope that this isn't their way of taking away the transflash option and handicapping this phone even more. I will keep mine and not exchange it if that is the case

I work in a retail store and got the same email kinda pissed since i bought the phone when it first came out also if anyone lives in the hartford, CT area let me know you pix msg and text msg delivery is going.

See, that sucks, we haven't got anyhting here yet in cust service center yet about this.. hmmm... about the txt and pix, we have been getting alot of calls about it because of the 1x being down
