I called verizon and talked to the normal customer service representative who really knows nothing techincal and provides no support regarding the overall issue. I then talked to an account manager, Jeremy (ID # 4670), who said he would not take fingerpointing from the Data group regarding this being motorola's issue. After being on hold for about 12 minutes he came back online with a representative from Motorola (a nice 3-way). We talked about the issues on this forum and other press regarding the phone. The simple question: when will OBEX (file transfer) support be enabled on the phone? The answer is not in the near future if ever. All of the BS on this site is truely a polutant to people who had hope that this phone would be as grea...

TISK TISK TISK! YOU CAN ALL BE SAVED! GET YOURSELF A CDM-9900 THAT WILL SOLVE ALL YOUR HEADACHS. MOTO KEEPS GETTING WORSE.

SO NOW, WILL YOU ACCEPT THE CDM-9900 AS YOUR SAVIOR? OR, DEAL WITH ALL OF THE V710'S SHORTCOMINGS. WHAT SHORTCOMINGS? THE 710 PHONE IS A COMPLETE DISASTER. IT MAKES IRAQ LOOK LIKE A CIVILIZED WORLD!

fortunately, the v710 is still more advanced than the 9900. even though most of its cool features are locked, we still have the freedom of making our own ringtones, wallpapers, and 3 minute videos thanks to the transflash. with the 9900, your only option is GIN 😡 . so do you want a dictated phone or a liberated phone. you decide. 😉

What are you trying to accomplish? Why aren't you content with having your opinion of the v710 to guide your phone selection? What satisfaction do you derive from attempting to influence others? Why can't you present facts without bias? WHAT DO YOU STAND TO GAIN?

I spoke with a rep today and he said that VZW is in the process of testing several different versions of the software update for the 710 to see which is going to work best, however no ETA is known.

That is great that they are testing an update... To bad it WILL NOT include file transfer capabilities via Blue Tooth or USB...

If you knew anything about cameras, especially digital cameras, you would know that it is not the software that is crippling the camera. It is, in fact, the lens on the camera. It is a crappy piece of plastic that is hindering it from taking wonderful pictures. If they wanted to put a nice lens on the phone the it would have cost much more money. A crappy lens on lower megapixel cameras does not make much of a difference. Its when you get up above 1 megapixel is when it starts to make a difference. Thats why people buy nice Carl-Zeiss lenses for their cameras instead of Quantaray. If Audiovox had bluetooth that I could use a bluetooth headset with then your 9900 would be my savior. But since it doesnt then I will stick with the v710 when I g...

YES Well, your knowledge is not so UNTOUCHABLE after all is it now? enjoy your crappy piece of plastic! LOL!!!! you crack me up. You just admitted to a crappy phone when in fact, the 9900 is a solod well built JAPANESE made product with a QVGA screen that the MOTO does not have. Audiovox is not stupid enough to put bluetoothless on a phone they were smart and sported the camera with a much better camera, phone, menu, screen, battery life, standby time etc...

Please ignore this post. Motorola says they will have a firmware update in December that addresses OBEX and object push. Talked to Motorola v710 product manager in California who said the software is in alpha testing now and they are on plan for delivery around December.

Sal, please wise up. Do you actually think MOTO is working on an update to fix this problem or any other problems? They know clear as day how they produced and marketed a really terrible headache causing product. The so called product manager will tell you anything just to get you off the phone cause I am sure he was inundated with zillions of complaints about this issue and he himself, is tired of dealing with it

This is great... The problem is that VZW will not accept or release it for their phones... It would be a profit hit to the most profitable Cell Phone Company...

Funny thing is that Motorola told me on August 1st that there would be an Update by October 1st... VZW confirmed receipt of the update and advised they would not release it.. The only future update coming was to fix some minor glitches and to disble file transte...

Disable TransFlash? Then what's the point of this phone? I can't use full capability of the Bluetooth feature. Now, I won't be able to use TransFlash? Whichever party is responsible for these decisions needs to rethink their actions.

I think it's time to start getting some states attorney generals involved. NYS's Elliot Spitzer would be a good one. He eats this sh*t up! Selling us a product that the *seller*, not the manufacturer has decided not to allow us to use! That's absurd, obscene, and possibly illegal. VZ didn't discount the phone due to the disabled features. We still paid full shot for it, and should expect the features to be able to be used as the manufacturer (and in this case, the Bluetooth Spec) had intended.

Well I talked to Motorola Customer Service (corporate) in Chicago and they have a signed agreement with VZW that VZW made them sign that does not allow them (Moto) to offer the full BT. It's in the phone now, just crippled by VZW's agreement. So the fact that you (or who ever) is pushing this back on to Moto is BS. It is still VZW's call to allow or not allow any of the crippled features. Again, all of the "crippled" features are in the phone, just cut by software. Check out www.nuclearelephant.com, this guy also knows that it is a VZW issue and that the features are in the phone, they just need to be unlocked. He is even offering a reward for anyone who comes up with a usable hack to unlock these BT features!

well, i dont think theres anything you can do to unlock the crippled features. its just flat out missing the software code. we would need someone to write it from scratch.
