It doesn't brick the phone entirely, however if you remove the memory once its part of the memory, your phone will no longer turn on and you must restart the phone from scratch. So enter your email again, download everything, it will be as if it is a brand new phone. Same thing if you want to use the card. So if you have been using a Focus for say 6 months without a memory card and then you want to use one, you need to completely restart your phone to factory settings, delete everything, and start over as if its new with the new memory card. So it is not a memory card you can remove and add whenever you want, Once its inside, its part of the internal memory. So removing it will cause an error because to the phone, half of its built in hard drive is now missing.

Hope that helped!

I have used the Focus, Focus S, Titan and soon the lumia 900. :-)
