I WISH!!! unfortunately Verizon doesnt really know the meaning of 'free'. text messaging is an add-on feature you can get. There are many different text plans you can add. 100 txt messages is 2.99 or 3.99 a month, they have a new one for 500 txt and 20 picture messages for 7.99 a month. (if you go over the # of allowed messages its 10 cents to send and 2 cents to receive a text message. these charges also apply for every text message you make if you dont get a texting plan

Orioles150 is correct. Verizon charges for everthing. I learned the hard way. My son was text messaging all his friends and ran up the bill. I since added a text package to my share plan to eliminate this.

Does anyone know what the little dashes in the text messaging outbox mean? Sometimes there will be 1, or sometimes 2 little dashes next to each sent text message.

If you are refering to the check marks in the box to the left of the sent message, I think they refer to the status sent message. One check means the msg was successfully sent and two mean the is was both sent and successfully delivered to the person you sent it to. If you look at the msg you sent, then click on the "Detail" button, it will show that box again with the number you sent the msg to. Push the "OK" button and you will see the time and date it was sent and the time and date it was delivered.
