Turning off sound for On/Off Screen?

Does anyone know how to turn off the sounds the phone makes when you turn it on or off? I have U.S. Cellular, and even one of the reps didn't know how to do it, and in fact had this phone. It would be wonderful to turn it off in case I leave it on at inappropriate times. Thanks in advance!

I believe the only way to do so would be to put the phone on etiquette mode before turning it off. Let me know if that works!

Nope. Etiquette mode and the current volume setting have no effect on the start/end music -- tell the phone to be quiet and it happily blasts away an annoying, unchangable song when you turn it on or off. That was my best guess as well.

Perhaps you can download new software to change it?
