Bluetooth Voice Commands

Even after reading the information available regarding the 2.1 update that is going to hit eventually, it says nothing about fixing the missing ability to use Bluetooth Voice Command to make a call. I can not understand how they could have forgotten or screwed up a function like that which has been available on most phones for several years, and makes this phone illegal to use while driving in many States. Anyone even heard of an App that makes this possible? I make long drives and have to use my ATT V3i while driving instead of this phone as a result. I keep 2 different accounts just for places where one or the other network doesn't work well.

Most of the other "features" sound more like new toys then anything actually important coming ...

As has been explained many times, the speakerphone works just fine. Bluetooth works just fine as well, once you are on a call.

If you get the car dock, just touch the voice command key (just like you would if you were using a bluetooth, except the voice command key is on the phone, not on the headset) This works just fine with the car mount under the rearview mirror on both my 1996 Windstar and my 2005 Neon. There's plenty of places in most vehicles you could get it closer to you than the rearview mirror on the windstar.

If you don't want to get a car dock from Verizon, get one of those universal cell phone holders. If you want to get really fancy, it isn't that difficult to find the location of the car mount's magnet, and glue on...

The car dock and speaker phone may be a work around for some, but it is absolutely not legal in most States for initiating a call unless you are pulled over and parked at the time. You can not be looking at the phone, even in a car dock on the dash board, reaching for it and pushing buttons and call that a legal "Hands Free" phone as is required. Once the call is initiated, you don't even need the speakphone or car dock anyway since the bluetooth headset works fine after the call is initiated.

This is a very big time screw up by either Motorola or Google because it is one of the single most essential features of a MOBILE phone today and somehow they missed it. I would expect that it is one they would fix long before they cared about thing...

In most states, the exception is is for using "hands free devices". For most legal purposes, speakerphone=hands free. By your logic, you couldn't legally use your bluetooth to place a call, because you have to push a button on the bluetooth to trigger it.

Once you have done it once, maybe twice, OK, maybe for you, a couple dozen times; for the rest of us, once or twice, you wouldn't need to look at the phone to hit the voice command button while in the car dock. A bit of effort on the placement of the car dock, in most vehicles, you could reach and trigger voice command without even taking your hands off the wheel. Something which can't be said for most of the controls in most cars.

And of course, this is probably a good time to po...

Well, every other phone I have owned in the last 5 years was legal to use while driving in California. This one is not. Its not just a single button push either. Its several button pushes.

I guess you work as a salesman for Verizon and accept no critism, whether constructive or otherwise. Instead you prefer to insult your customers who have complaints. I'll just move on to AT&T again and ignore the nonsense here.

Go **** yourself.

Clearly you have never actually USED the Droid, if you actually have one.

If you load "Car Home" (either by launching manually, or by placing the droid into the car dock), the button that is at the highest position in the "arch" (whether in landscape or in portrait mode) is marked "voice search". (in landscape mode, the top of the arch is the top center of the phone. In portrait mode, it's the top right corner.

Car Home prevents the phone from locking the screen (which is why the phone will "silently activate" if you use a phone holder with a magnetic clasp). If you are not connected to power, the screen will eventually turn off, however, it is not actually locked. If you connect a power supply, it keeps the screen on, too, which me...

You have me completely confused with someone else in some other threads. I have made two complaints about this phone. The first was that it came with no users manual, and the online manual is terrible. The second and only one regarding the phone, is that it does not support bluetooth voice dialing, which is this thread.

I have never forwarded a message (I assume you meant a text message) from any phone, so have no interest in even knowing if it can be done on this phone. I did find that I liked Handcut better then the native app though for doing any text messaging because I was able to change the font size to an easier one to read.

As far as my saying I'd "never go back to AT&T" where are you getting this nonsense from? I never le...

This is a common misconception -- per the California DMV, it is NOT against the law to use your hands to dial a number or select from a Contacts list on your phone.

I'll agree that the Droid should be able to do this, but you're not breaking the law by using your hands to initiate a call.

I just thought, I wonder if the Iphone folks even know about this particular Droid shortfall? What a great ATT/Iphone Ad it would make to explain why the Droid was not legal to use for making calls while driving in xxxx States.

They sure make a big deal about a lot of nonsensical differences in features between the two phones.

One Ad like that would probably get Verizon/Motorola/Google to fix this quickly.
