Possible? yes.

There's a couple ways to do it. One of them involves "rooting" your phone. Basically, this means hacking your phone to get increased access to the hardware.

Once you have "root" access (the UNIX term for Administrator rights, adopted by Linux, from which Android is derived), you can do all kinds of non-standard things, including using the built-in WiFi to create your own portable hot spot.

If you look at the "WiFi Hotspot" thread, the basic instructions there should work for Eris too.

The simpler method uses the USB port; you'll need to get the appropriate driver on your PC, as well as an app on your Eris, but it basically makes your phone appear to be a USB Ethernet card. It's simpler because you don't have ...

Here is a link to the thread I mentioned. Since someone might be reading this message in a year, when that thread might not be so easy to find:

From a soon to be owner of a Droid: Thank you for this link. I'm a current owner of a Nokia N95 and I use my phone to tether via wifi, using an app called Joikuspot. But the app for usb tethering with Android is PDAnet, it masks the data.

I'm not sure. If it is actually the official 2.1 update, then it probably isn't really rooted. the "official" update won't give you the elevated permissions you need for things like tethering.

Many of the "leaked" updates I have seen are really rebuilt or scratch built rom images. These require root access (ie, "rooted") to install, and once installed, continue to give you those elevated privileges.

Not sure what you mean by mirror things? There's reflectors (usually called mailing lists), and Forums (like PhoneScoop). There's also creating an image (sometimes called a mirror) of you ROM, so you can restore it if you need to.

the root file is the default file.. as in /sdcard/yourfile.zip

Though a word of caution.. if you don't know what a root file is, you might want to consider NOT rooting your phone until you read up on it more.

ive got it...lol man im retarted ๐Ÿคฃ but yea did the update have no complaints ๐Ÿ˜ navigation works well 2.1 market is AWESOME..everything seems to work well to be honest....and i didnt have to "root" my phone in order to do the update unless putting the file in the root of ur sd card is considerd "rooting" your phone...i run the HTC DROID ERIS not the moto droid so im not sure if you guys are able to use the same ROM that i downloaded to get the update but i am POSITIVE that there is a ROM that you could download on your pc to do this with the MOTO droid....DO AT OWN RISK and PLUG PHONE IN WALL CHARGER WHILE COMPLETEING THE UPDATE TO PREVENT BRICKING. i wanna say thx to MUPI and all the others that are VERY smart and have helped me bet...

Just go to the marketplace and search for themes.

pandaHome is compatible with most themes available. Note that not all of them are free, of course.

There isn't exactly a widget in the same way that Sense has one, but if you get weatherbug, it has weather info, and it will show current conditions in the notification bar, along with a red triangle for alerts. The upgraded weatherbug might have a widget? I don't know. I'm pretty happy with the free one....

SNo offense here, man...but maybe you should read up on exactly what "rooting" is, before considering it. Installing 2.1 didn't root your phone, unless the install required root, which it doesn't sound like it did. Rooting is simply gaining superuser access to the phone, which allows you to access functions normally not allowed. This is the same as a Linux OS, issuing a "sudo" command. If that doesn't make sense, then its the same as running commands or programs as an administrative user in Windows. You're basically enabling functions that "normal" users wouldn't usually need access to, and that can sometimes be dangerous, so they're blocked by default, and it takes a little effort to get to. After all, you wouldn't want to be able to delete...
