To that list I would add

-Desktop syncing/backup software. 1 area RIM does right is their desktop software(this does not include the POS media manager)

-File manager. Maybe I missed this, but I couldn't find where to browse the directory structure of my phone without connecting it to a pc.

Sweet phone, though.

go to the app market and search "explorer" there are several free apps that allow you to browse the phones entire file structure

Already done, but a file explorer is one of those things that should have been included in the system- even just a rudimentary one.

I'm looking at the Droid as a viable sales alternative to Berry and Windows Mobile solutions out there, so I was hoping for a more mature experience out of the box. Right now I'm collecting a list of "must have" apps that we can download for our new Droid customers to give them the functionality they need before they leave my store.

I wish the bluetooth linking with my car would work better:
1. The signal strength doesn't update on the car nav screen while the phone is locked, so you don't know if you have a signal or not.

2. It doesn't upload all of my contacts to the car--my old blackberry did this fine. It seems to crash and only uploads about 30% of the contacts.

I also wish I could set my calender to automatically display the month rather than the day...

I know how to change it to month, but I want that to be the default display type

As far as I can tell, i can't... unless someone knows...

... because it is so hard and time consuming to tap the button on the top of the phone?

I actually LOVE that feature; It's no more difficult to lock than my dare, and much quicker to respond as well. I can have the phone locked and unlocked faster than my dare would lock when hitting the lock button. Plus, it shuts the screen off (= "sleep"), which, all things considered, is usually the point of locking the phone. Although I do find it a convenient "quick mute" since you can mute the phone from the lock screen. Not entirely sure what other purpose locking the phone would serve? maybe you can enlighten me.

It would take longer to lock the phone if you DID have the option in, say, the settings menu, than to just hit that button twi...

Try this. Go into you're calendar, change to the month view and then hit your home key. The next time you bring up your calendar, the default should be monthly.

++ to this one. I'm keeping an eye out for a desktop manager that will offer at least some of the same functionality as a Berries.

depending on how you define "some", motorola has a utility that offers "some" of the functionality of the 'berries' manager.

And once you've plugged the phone in once, you shouldn't have to keep ignoring those prompts. Once Verizon releases their tethering app, they will have to provide a driver. In the "for what it's worth" category, that's the only thing the driver for he Dare provided: support for tethering. Without ever installing the driver, I can read the media card inserted just fine; just like with my droid. And just like the droid, without installing the driver, windows complains, but it only ever asked me once. After I clicked "do not install a driver for this device" it stopped asking me.
