Need a phone that can sync email and calendar

Here's the deal:
I use Windows Live Mail on my PC. With it I can sync email, contacts and calendars with my Hotmail account. I also do this with my laptop and I can access the same information through a browser on any computer. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a portable device - preferably a phone - that can do this without the additional steps of installing Outlook and ActiveSync. I have gone that route using Motorola Phone Tools and it hasn't been reliable.

I'm wondering if the Droid (or any Verizon phone) has the ability to sync Hotmail OTA? I also have a Gmail account and I would consider making it my primary account if sync OTA is possible. Thanks in advance.

Gmail OTA sync is native to the droid and works REally well. I've been messing with it, and I think I might be able to do my schedule on my phone now instead of ripping my eyes out.

For hotmail activesync, I'd have to look into that one. I've used gmail since it was available, so I'm kinda out of touch with other options.

Thanks for the reply. I went to the Verizon store and played with both the Moto Droid and the HTC Droid Eris. I haven't used touch screen phones before so both phones felt a little weird. The Eris screen felt somewhat more responsive, but I liked that the Moto Droid has a real keyboard. I found the tiny virtual keys on the Eris pretty hard to "push". But I digress...Are there any other phones for Verizon that handle Gmail sync well?

Blackberries are decent. you need to install Google Sync on the device, but mine seems to handle it.

Only gripe is that if you read something on your computer, it won't mark it as read on the phone.. but this should change when all the phones are running 5.0 (from what I've read)

It syncs very well with Outlook and contacts. Can send copies of pop emails to gmail.

I keep finding new stuff. Way better than my iphone 3gS. Very fast.
