Each time I plug in the DROID to PC the computer recognizes hardware but then the installation wizard pops up asking to look for software...what to do?

I have Windows Vista and a Mac, on the windows machine I just ignore the look up for software, and I still can go into the phones folders.

But I was just trying to put songs on the phone. I don't know if that helps you.

Weird - I too have a Mac and a Windows 7 machine and it didn't try to install anything on either. Once I mounted the card on the phone it simply popped up on both machines as a USB mass storage device.

I just use gmail and the phone syncs to it and the Mac syncs to it automatically (once setup of course)

I also am having a problem. I connected to both my Vista PC and Vista laptop. Both show a drive pop up in explorer, but I cant open them. It tells me to insert a disc.

I wasn't able to view any of the files on my phone at first when I plugged it in. I had to go to the notification that the USB cable was connected and tell it to mount the SD card for the PC to read. Then it all worked just fine.

Works great after finding how to do it the first time. Also can make free ringtones this way from your own MP3 songs.

I got this when my computer was trying to get the proper USB drivers, etc. I ended up downloading USB_Driver_4.1.0_32.zip from Motorola's site. After I unzipped that file and ran the driver install, I restarted my computer and it recognized the Droid just fine.

But, yes, once the phone is recognized, then you have to tell the Droid to Mount as described by others here and then the computer will show the Droid as a drive. Remember to "Safely remove ..." from your computer before unplugging USB cable.

From your droid phone, open your contacts, then hit the options key and select "import/export" once that is done, when you mount your phone to your computer, it should pop up as a file that you can copy onto your computer. (haven't tried extracting it yet on my computer, but I'm sure there are apps for it already)
