so, you can control navigation with your voice. you can search the internet with your voice. you can search the contents of the phone with your voice. you can dial with your voice.....but is there a "vlingo-esque" application for android that will allow me to send a text message without having to use my opposable thumbs?

You will just have to create an account for yourself and visit the Android App site. You need a Gmail account to accomplish this but there are over 10,000 apps on the Android App location.
