it hangs in a weird way?!!

i have a problem wiz ma phone...
sometimes i dial a number and press the hang up to make a missed call or dial a landline (specially landlines) but it continues to dial and i keep pressing hang up but it keeps dialing then the screen goes black and come back after a while ...
i got this phone unlocked a while ago and i was thinking about installing the software again or updating it (is there a difference?) but i fear that it would get locked again and then i will have to reuinlock it again but that would cost me serious money again..plz help..thanx
