Ringtones for Text Messages

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to set mp3s that I download as my text message ringtone? When I try to set my text message alert, the TM506 just gives me a fixed list of tones that I have to choose from.

Thanks.

Do not answer when I open????

I've tried messing with the answer options in the Profile, but it seems that no matter what I choose the phone answers when I open it, I'd rather it didn't.

Anyone able to do this?

battery life

i really like the phone but the battery is the worst i have ever seen on a flip phone.

its even worse then my pda that i had with t-mobile. the mda phone. i had to get a big battery to extend the life of that phone and there isnt a battery for this one with a longer life.

i turned down the brightness but cant figure out how to turn off the gps.. any suggestions?

Predictive Text?

Is there a way to turn off the predictive text feature. it actually slows me down when trying to use t-0 texting.

R3DA030 summary

you CAN tether using internet2 or internet3 APNs, if your data supports it, but you CAN'T tether using wap or epc APNs, you'll get error, this applies to both bt and USB
3rd party apps can be used, you can use Google Maps, Opera Mobile, no problem
only 3G icon, no H icon
can play streaming rtsp and real like old version

Finally!

T-Mobile has an affordable phone with GPS. Now if we can only grab either the Pearl or the Curve with GPS in it...

update software version: R3DA030

you can check your version by accessing service menu
(left and right on d-pad)
right, star, left, left, star, left, star
software info

if your version is R3DA030, tethering is blocked
you can use davinciteam to flash to R3CA033 to re-enable tethering

Tethering may be removed in a future software update

Just be careful if one wanteth to tether to a computer or laptop for that it is rumored that tethering will be removed in a future software update.

Will it roam in Japan?

I assume that if it will work in Europe on UMTS 2100 it will work in Japan as well as a 3G phone. Is that correct?

WCDMA 1700 / WCDMA 2100. Does that mean European use for the latter?

Usually, I see phones for T-Mo mention only WCDMA 1700. But since it also says WCDMA 2100, does that mean worldwide use as well?

I was wondering if you could set the mp3"s you store yourself via the m2 card as your ringtones? Thanks in advance!

Why is it that Sony Ericssion will make a 1700 AWS 3G phone for T-Mobile...and they won't make CDMA?

Sony has been out of the CDMA game for a few years now... WHY? T-Mobile is the ONLY GSM carrier out there using AWS 1700... so if they make a phone that supports it... they are making it for ONLY
T-Mobile... and that is a limited user base to sell phones to. Yet... for years they have dogged CDMA technology for years because of it's "limited user base" (compared to GSM)... yet they could be selling phones to Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, Metro, Cricket, Virgin.... who probably cover 80 million people alone. I don't get it.

3G Plans and Tethering

This phone sounds like everything I have been looking for except for the outdoor viewing weakness..Will you be able to get it with a new activation with the $6 web plan or only on the $20 plan?..also, in checking with the Sony website, will you be able to tether your laptop for basic surfing using bluetooth or their software suite?

Will Carriers in Canada use this someday?

I'm not saying like within a couple of months, but since the AWS auction in Canada took place in May, I was wondering if carriers who bought those frequencies will use them, like probably next year or so. If so, then manufacturers would have more incentive to make WCDMA 1700 phones.

Did you NOT notice the big Send and End keys?!?! Holy crap! 😳 I can't believe that someone over at ol' SE finally decided this was a good idea... amazing.
