Does env2 support mp4 movies?

Hi....I could have sworn a week or so ago, phonescoop showed the env2 as supporting mp4 video files. I have tried playing one from the memory card....I get sound, but no video. I called Verizon Tech support today and tried 3 different reps. They call said mp4 video is not supported on the phone =/ Anybody know for sure?

Thanks!

I checked the video specs and It will do up to 320/240 resolution.
What I did with a DVD (Happened to be a short one of an equestrian event) is use the program "Handbrake" which is available for free.

You MUST set the selection to iPod low res, and check to make sure it shows "320" as the first dimension. Don't bother changing the other blank.
Rip the DVD into a file, which It will default to m4v,(you can change the suffix to mp4)
and then drag and drop the file into my videos.
Works like a chanp.
BTW Windows XP does NOT require any additional drivers for USB mass storage. It will try and tell you and it will want to search, but eventually it will tell you it can't find anything but will have installed the defau...

CaptJeff,

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply in such detail. It works! I had a feeling there was something I was missing that would make it work even though 3 or 4 different Verizon tech support reps told me mp4 format wasn't supported at all. It's amazing how good the quality of a 320 X 240 DVD rip actually is on the inside screen 🙂

Thanks again

CaptJeff,

What's the file size (and duration)?

I'm trying to determine what SD/SDHC micro card I'd want to get.

Thanks!

One of the videos of an equestrian event was 9:42 and it was 60470K. ~61Mb.
I got the 8GB card for ~$50. BTW, even with the
SD adaptor, you can't read it in a normal SD or Micro SD reader. You need a MicroSDHC or SDHC reader. I just use the phone as a reader!

Ok, so I have the phone and a 4GB micro SDHC card. The card was formatted in the phone. I do *not* have a separate SDHC reader (yet, on its way in a few days).

The phone is still as yet unactivated and so I can access a fair amount using BitPim. I figured out how to add mp3s as ringtones, and have uploaded photos to the phone. I also downloaded the VCast Music Manager to get music onto the phone and this worked fairly well. However, I've been unsuccessful in sending any videos to the phone. I took some video with the camera and moved that video to the video directory on the SDHC card as a placeholder for myself, but when I tried putting a .3gp file there it didn't like it. It also didn't like .3g2 files or .mpg or .mp4. Any advi...

Ah! Figured it out. In BitPim there is a My Flix folder in mmc1 (media card). I put the video there. It still didn't show up...until I power cycled the phone! Wheee! Well, it works with .3g2 files, so far.

This is awesome 🙂

Select Menu 9, 2, 9 (when you plug in the usb cable, enabling usb mass storage on the phone. You should see your card (in the phone) as a "drive" on your computer. Mine works great this way.
