Hello all. I just got my Verizon V9M in the mail today and I have to say this phone is GORGEOUS. The Espresso color actually look very nice. Everyone who has seen the phone today loved the color.

I can't say too much about the phone, but so far:
*This phone is quite a bit heavier than my V3M.
*A tad bit taller than my V3M.
*Thinner than the V3M.
*Beautiful displays both inside and out.
*Camera takes excellent pictures.
*Still has the Verizon UI, but it never really bothered me.
*Love the big front display.
*Ringers are pretty much the same as the old V3M.

Overall, very happy with the looks and the call quality is EXCELLENT.

I'm also curious if you can read text messages from outside screen. Or does an envelope pop up and you have to open to read?

And is there a dedicated speakerphone key on the side?

And can you have different wallpapers on the 2 screens? And can you have vibrate and ring together?

And how many ringtones does it come with?

Thanks!

There is a speakerphone button on the side, but the phone must be open for you to access it. I believe that you can hold that button when someone is calling you when the phone is closed to answer it on speakerphone. You can set different wallpapers to the screens separatly, unlike the Sprint version. It comes with about 20 ringtones.

Oh that sucks you have to open the phone to use speakerphone.

And what about the text messaging? Can you view from the oustide screen? And how's the resolution?

No, you can not view or reply from the outside screen. Personally, I'm somewhat unsuprised yet pissed. All it says is "1 New message." đŸ‘ŋ However, the outside screen is HUGE and looks very nice. And if by speakerphone you mean the voice recognition software, there is two ways to activate it from the outside: on the screen or with a side button. Seems redundant to me. And you can answer the phone with speakerphone when it is still closed; you hold the speaker button for about a second and it answers. There is no need for the speakerphone to already be on, unlike the Maxx.

Yes that does TOTALLY suck that you cannot read text from the outside. My 8100 from 2 years ago could do it! That is a waste of a huge screen in the front, that's for sure.

I did read in the reviews that the voice recognition buttons on both the front and side are redundant, and I agree on that.

Good to hear you can answer a call with speakerphone without opening.

Thanks for the info!

On Motorola website it states that the phone can actually read the text messages to you.

I had my friend send me some, and it worked. Menu system was option>save sound>rename>set as (NOT OK)>ringtone. You have to save it with no spaces, and you can't even press the space button or it will give you an error message. I have also heard that you can send them via email to your phone, and save through the same process. I tried recording a voice memo to save to myself and that did not work. However, I am going to put a mp3 ringtone on my card, send it to myself and see if it works.

Just got my V9M about in hour ago. You can read the a text from the front screen. The phone is great. The call quality has been really good. Its really easy to make 3 way calls. It has a great screen to check email. There is no need for a pda anymore 🤤 🤤 🤤

Yeah you really need to clarify this. You CAN read them on the outside or you CANNOT? if so, how? It's pretty sad that this is the deciding factor on whether I get this phone or not haha

Are you using the Sprint V9m or the Verizon V9m?
Because on the Verizon model you cannot read txt messages on the external display.

Could you elaborate a little on why you think there is no longer a need for a pda? I need a phone to be a very basic pda and I never felt my Razr V3i was quite up to the task.

Cannot read TXT Msg on extenral screen.
Both displays can show different wallpapers.
There is a "smartkey" on the side that activates the speakerphone.
