Iris Web Browser

by Mycopsycho    Apr 5, 2009, 2:51 PM

I installed the latest version of Iris web browser today. Yawn......I'm not impressed, at least not on my Moto Q9h. Some of the issues with Iris:

Bookmarks - seems to have little control over managing bookmarks. I couldn't organize into folders my imported bookmarks in the folders I had in Opera and IE.

Navigation - I tried using the cursor. Slow and cumbersome. Returned to normal WM6 nav. It was fast but hard to see where I was. No improvement here.

Nav buttons on side - With Iris the up/down buttons did not function. Back and select did work, though.

Default browser - Altho I selected Iris to be my default browser, I could not get it to come up with the browser nav button on my device. I still got Opera or IE depending on which I selected as default browser. But not Iris.

Homepage - It was not obvious how to select a homepage. I kept getting the Iris mobile website as homepage.

Zoom - Standard display was not comfortable for my old eyes. Choice in display was like 50%/100%/200%. Zoom worked okay but who wants to be going back and forth to zoom all the time?

At this point I got bored and frustrated with Iris and give it up. I'll play with it some more but expect to uninstall it before I'm done. I saw little improvement over Opera or IE. Iris probably is good with a touch screen device but not for a standard WM6 smartphone such as the Q9h.
