Iphone w/out itunes

Is there any way i could use another program to put music on my iphone. I havbe an unlocked iphone and i've heard that if you plug it into itunes the new update will be forced onto your phone. Can anyone help me.

no, and the firmware update is not forced.

Do NOT use itunes later than 7.4.2 or you will re-lock the phone. Other than that, be sure not to accept upgrading the iPhone firmware to 1.1.2
