My IPhone Experience

OK I read all the reviews, but I had to see for myself. So I went about it a different way, I didn't change my provider I just got a new phone number with Cingular/ATT, figured they had a try out time and would be less expensive if I decided to return the phone. Here's what happened.

I unpacked the Iphone very carefully saving every scrap of packing just in case. Charge it fully, had it activated and it's going back tomorrow and you can bet I'm not paying any restocking fee either. This phone sucks either it's the phone or it's the provider.

Back in the day I had Cingular before they changed over to GSM.. Cingular worked great around here when it was TDMA? Now it sucks, drop off city and very spotty service, doesn't even penetrate ...

Thanks for the OBJECTIVE review. I wouldn't pay a restocking fee. With the iPhone being exclusive to ATT, how can anyone test the network for the first time, w/o opening the phone. Yes, the iPhone has the technology to draw someone to a different network, but at least let them try the network. I can play with the iPhone at any Apple store (where they are running off wi-fi, not EDGE) A little deceiving if you ask me. If it makes you feel any better, you saved another ADULT from purchasing this phone.

Not at all, I wanted the Iphone to be great and wonderful, VZW has been calling me almost every two weeks wondering if I knew that my "new every two" was in effect and if I wanted to get a new phone, there is nothing that VZW is offering right now that floats my boat and I was hoping the IPhone would, I would have gladly given VZW the $179 to get out of my contract. I read all the reviews and like I said I'm the "Im from Missouri" type of guy and I had to try the phone myself and I was totally dissapointed.

Be realistic, for the price the 8 gig goes for, it should do much more, offer much more and be much more than it is. I tried, I really tried to like the phone. Just the scrolling on web pages is tiresome after awhile, while it look...

I totally agree with the author of this post. I too wanted to love this phone. The phone is a great tool, IF and only IF they had the right service provider. ATT is terribly slow and not reliable at all.

Go to CNN or ESPN.com and see how long it takes for the page to load. It is painful.
I just wish VZW would have decided to use it as one of their devices....

I also agree that for $650 (599 + tax) I wanted more.

I guess I will be bringing my 8gig iphone back to the store.

Great post.

They need 3G on the iPhone, but ATT's network will also have to improve as well, judging from responses.

It's great that you're mature enough to be able to part with the new toy because it doesn't do what it should (really, KUDOS for that...many people would just try to live with it for the sake of "coolness"), but don't diss the network just because it won't work for you. It's all about where you live and where you use your phone. In many areas, the opposite of your story is true. Where I am, VZW and at&t are literal equals in service. I've had at&t/Cingular/Bellsouth Mobility for 9 years and have never had any trouble, anywhere I've gone. Once upon a time, I worked for VZW and had both my personal and work phone everywhere I went and they both worked fine. When I left VZW, I stayed with at&t because, all things being equal here, at&t's p...

You bring up just my point. Cingular/ATT service used to be as equal to VZW as you can get around in this town and surrounding towns, but something has happened in the past few years, as I used to have Cingular and had no problems or drop-offs (rarely). But this was when Cingular was TDMA so we are talking years ago, now Cingular is all GSM in this area and service with them seems to have degraded, why? I thought GSM was such a far superior broadcasting tool than TDMA, but seems not so.

There is one thing that I expect out of a cell phone no matter what, first and foremost it is a telephone, I don't care about the rest of the bells and whistles, I want communications first, I want to hit send and connect, to clearly hear the other pers...

Understood, but again....I think it just has to do with where you are. It could also be a defective iPhone I guess, but I would be more inclined to think that when at&t switched over to GSM that your area somehow got "uncovered". Not really sure. I would suggest maybe trying another at&t device to see what difference there may be. You have 30 days to return it and you can, in doing this, determine if the problem is your iPhone or if at&t just isn't going to cut it in your area.

My advice: Try the Curve! 😈

I already took back the Iphone! Today I decided to hit the VZW store to see what is what in the new phones they are offering, There was not one thing, not one that even appealed to me. What I have in mind is.... another phone like the Iphone, but one that has more features for the money and one that has better phone functions, they keep saying wait for the Prada, Prada Shmada I don't pay for brand name anything, even when the rage was to have some designers name on your ass, they want their name on my butt, PAY ME for the ad. LOL The only idiots that will buy the Prada is Paris Hilton types, but not if the phone makes them weigh one more pound than they should. Please somebody out there make a cutting edge phone, THAT WORKS! THATS WORTH...
