I switched from Verizon - No problems at Verizon with service or dropped calls ever, but with ATT I'm dropping calls all the damn time no matter where I am or how good the signal is. The non-phone related things on the iPhone are totally and absolutely amazing; I'm a Mac user so I have to like it, but the phone freaking sucks! The ringer is not loud at all and the earpiece is totally quiet even with the volume all the way up. Additionally, every time I talk to someone they ask me if I'm on a speaker phone; I'm not. I HATE THIS AS A PHONE!!! Everything else is amazing though! I dropped 9 calls out of 37 since Friday night (it is Sunday night now). I don't know...I really like this thing, but I want my phone calls to go through.

Where are you? In the NYC Tri-State area I have had no problems, no drop calls, no signal issues, and definitely no one has asked me if I'm on speaker.
Actually it works better then my Blackjack, which always stalled and I had issues with reception. Maybe you should try swapping it out sounds like you might have a defective unit.

I am in Canton, OH. Today I called ATT and all EDGE network is down in ENTIRE Northeast Ohio. I'm not too happy with ATT so far, since I came from Verizon. I've dropped several calls...another today, and now the EDGE network is down!!! I've never had Verizon just say "Oh, we took EVDO down Monday afternoon".

I'm not bashing AT&T or I wouldn't have swtiched - I just have never experienced a dropped call and made up for all of them this weekend.

Well I have experience Verizon Data Network dropping off due to mistakes or maintenance.
Contact ATT and tell them you are having reception problems and maybe try swapping out the unit, it sounds defective. Do you have friends that got the iPhone, compare it with them and see what happens?

Will effect your enjoyment of a cell phone call,
Tower placement is crucial, transmission patterns crucial. Since cells are radios you can not be guarranteed connectivity on par with a wired telephone system, but you can expect better s...
