The music is crystal clear until you turn the volume all the way and then it kinda "washes" out. its definitly not as loud as the CU500

so would you say that's a definite headphone mp3 player? or could you play it w/ out the headphones and still get good quality?

if you dont turn the volume up 100% you should be ok but i would guess u will get the best quality through headphones.
